How to Cover Chipboard PERFECTLY Every time!

22 June
Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:37 Written by Megan Elizabeth 54 Comments

Helllooo!!! :)
Thanks for stopping by for another Tuesday Tutorial!!! :)   Hope you are having a GREAT day and BOY O BOY do I have something REALLY great to share with you! :)   I can’t wait to show you more because my new “family” members are just awesome and have helped me perfect something I’ve really struggled with getting right everytime I do it!

Covering Chipboard!  Have you ever wondered if there was a secret formula to really covering chipboard?  Do you ever get totally frustrated trying to trace with an Xacto knife and you still end up with some jagged edges that just drive you crazy?  Do you try to sand off the edges and it still doesn’t seem quite right?  I know that I’ve had those troubles.  I never seem to be able to trace and cut my shapes out perfectly, and now I’ve met my solution!!! I’m so excited!

In this video I show how I finished off a basic square shape which is pretty easy, but in a video coming up, we are going to show a much more intricate shape as well – so you can REALLY see how great these things work.

Right now, lets dive into a really fun gift project.  You’ll see how I used:

  • 7 Gypsies Metal book Handles
  • 7  Gypsies Gator Clips
  • K&Company Urban Rhapsody Paper
  • Tim Holtz Word Sticks
  • Tim Holtz Tokens
  • Rubons
  • Viva Decor Pearl Pens
  • How to Ink Edges of designs

I really hope you enjoy and I can’t wait to share more with you later!

I love this project. Would work great for a number of reasons for gifts. I could also see this done with like a chalk board type for a dormroom for college students.

I really liked your idea of the wall hanging. I am in the process of decorating my grandson’s room with pictures of past family members so that he knows his background. This wall hanging is going to work so well. Thanks for the idea.

Such a cute project! I love it! And thanks for the tip on using the sponge brush with the ink, never tried that. I always wondered why my inked edges were never as dark or heavy as most projects/pages/cards I’d seen, now I know. :)

Megan, thanks for showing and sharing this video. I have 12 x 12 chipboard that is too thick to put thru my cricut machine. I was trying to think of something I could make using those chipboards and now I know. We have a hobby lobby in our area and they carry 7 gypsies products. Again thanks so much. Keep the ideas coming..

Off topic…wondering if you could tell me if you can cut the clear plastic outer packaging from Cricut Cartridges with a Cricut machine? I love the look of “ghost shapes” and “ghost letters”, but wasn’t sure how to approach cutting this material. Have you tried it? Seems like a green thing to do…especially if you buy a lot of carts! tee hee!

Great video and I love the wall hanging!

Instead of using your fingers try folding a bit of wax paper or wrap it around your fingers before smearing the glue. It does not stick to your project, smears the glue evenly, and keeps your fingers clean!
