Cricut Cutting Mats: Save Money – ReStick – Reuse – Recycle

YouTube Preview Image

You are going to LOVE saving Money with this AMAZING product from Crafters Companion.  I picked this up from CustomCrops.com and I just love it. I have redone several mats with this now and I really do like it better than the Zig 2-Way Glue pens and GooGone.  (But that still works if you have it laying around!)

OMGosh!! This looks so much easier than trying to get the junk off with just soap and water. THANK YOU!! for showing and mentioning potential warrent issues if this method is used.

    thanks so much!

Wow – this is much nicer than the zig way! I am curious – the resticking spray – is there an odor? I am very sensitive to odors. THanks for sharing this wonderful product!!

  • Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 8:49am

WOW. I love the fact that you don’t have to wait 24 hrs before using your mats. TFS

Couldn’t find my cricut info but how long is that warranty anyway? Does it matter that it’s void?

  • Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 9:10am

To Felisa – I’m not sure where you can buy it – I only know of Custom Crops as of right now – maybe someone else can weigh in on that! :) This product is “new” to me – but I LOVE it!

To ShawnfromMn – There is an odor to the stick away and there is even less of an odor to the Stick and Spray. I don’t know how to really explain it though – :-/ sorry!

To Ann G – I can’t say that it doesn’t matter – but for me it wasn’t a big deal – I was more interested in saving money on cutting mats when I’ve seen that really it doesn’t effect the Machine – Provo Craft has to cover themselves too :)

This was a neat video. I was unaware of these products and it was most informative.

  • Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 11:42am

What part of the warranty has fault if you do this? Because I looked at the warranty and I said that it does not cover the mats. Then are they worried of the mat not doing well with the actual machine?

    Thanks Meagan!

  • Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 1:50pm

yes ive been doing the same for some time. i had the cans sat in my draw as to be honest they didnt work when i tried sticking things onto the walls with them.

but what i had not done until i saw the cc video was use the stick away to clean my mats first, so thats a tip learnt!

I will definitely be getting those. I started working with my Cricut before I really researched everything. I sat things on the mat while I was getting it out of the box, I used some fuzzy construction paper, didn’t recover it right away, and my mat looks really bad! What a great way to recycle the mat!!

I clean my mats and use a different tacky spray. It works ok, but the stickiness doesn’t last long. How long does the mat stay sticky after this process??

I use the Quilter’s Basting Spray from Michael’s and Blue masking tape – works wonderfully. Thanks for sharing about the GooGone, though – that’s what I need.

I am still waiting for a backordered can of Stick Away-it is hard to get! I think it is manufactured in the UK, and shipping to individuals seems to be an issue. Haven’t looked too deply into it yet-just waiting patiently for my can from CC.

I’ve been using Goo Gone spray gel and the Zig glue pen. I haven’t any problems. Plus I do have several mats to rotate when I renew the old ones. I am still using my original mat.

Thanks for the tips but I have two questions since I never ever considered being able to reuse the mats…
    1. I don’t remember my mats being especially gucky when I have discarded them, they just lost their stick and thus I would buy new ones (I also did not know of your previous ‘restick’ hints). Do you have to use the Stick Away if the mat does not appear gucky?
    2. Once you have used the second can to ‘restick’ the mat, how long does the stickiness last, ie several cuts or one or two…?
Thanks, and I will look forward to your answers.

Thank you so much for the matt cleaning technique I just purchased your DVD Cricut A to z and found it on there. This video has helped me utlize operating my Cricut to the max. Your the best and again thanks a million. I am off to spread the word to my fellow Cricut friend and order the spray cleaners you recommended.

HI, I am wanting this stuff so bad but I cannot get it shipped to Canada which to me is INSANE. However I seen where you have on here that the ZIg glue pen and GOO GONE can also be used. I have been using the zig blue pen on mine but I just tried the goo gone a few weeks ago and it took a lot of goo gone to clean it and I really don’t think it came that clean using the goo gone. Can you please tell me how you use the goo gone to clean your mats? DO you put it in a spray bottle or just wipe it on? Please advise me asap . Also Custom Crops has told me that they cannot ship the Temporary spray because it is aresol but the stick away is in a pump bottle so I have no idea why that cannot be shipped to Canada.GRRRR. They think we live on MArs I guess! Please advice me/help me asap.
    Thanking you in advance, Brenda

    Hi Brenda,

You can use everyday brake cleaner or carborator cleaner to unsitck your mat. This is the quickest and easiest way to get it clean. Also, living in Canada you might have Dick Blick – but if not there are alternatives produced by 3M and Krylon that i would imagine are available in Canada for purchase. My wife used this lady’s techinque (http://www.pinkcricut.com/2010/08/magically-clean-mats/) which is basically the same, but not the exclusive products from custom crops.

    Kyle
