As I Promised Yesterday:
Here is the “I Miss You Card” made by Jennifer Young. She is just a glimpse of the multitudes of talents that is going to be a part of the growing Above Rubies Studio. Now, I’ve gotten several emails about my work, and don’t worry! Megan is STILL here and I am still going to do regular free videos and post projects of my own. Having guest designers and other projects is just another way Above Rubies Studio is growing to serve this amazing Crafting World online! 🙂
(You can click on all images to make them bigger)
Lets take a look at how Jen made this projects and what she used:
- A stamped image ( I used Sugar Nellie colored with Prismacolor pencils using the Gamsol technique. Gamsol is a solution that has a dauber top that you can use to blend the pencil color together for the beautiful effect you see in this card.
- 1- 4″x5 1/2″ cardstock for base of card. (Unsure of the make used on this particular piece)
- 1- 8″x 5 1/2″ sheet of cardstock scored at 4″
- 1- 3″x3″ Core’dinations cardstock
- 1 1 1/4″x2 3/4″ cardstock (used Bazzill)
- 1- 8″ piece of fiber or ribbon (used fiber from adornaments)
- 1- small/medium flower (used a homemade one)
- Black ink pad StazOn
- Sentiment stamp from Studio 18
- Opaque white pen “Sakura Gelly Roll”
- Chalk ink (Cat’s Eye Dark Brown)
How Do I Make this Card?
1. Pierce along the edges of the stamped image and the 3×3 cardstock.
_
2. Distress and rough up the edges of the 3×3, 1 1/4×2 3/4, and stamped image.
_
3. Stamp the sentiment onto the 1 1/4x 2 3/4 piece of cardstock. Chalk all the edges of the cardstocks, including the large base.
_
4. Use the Gelly Roll pen to add some accents to the sentiment.
_
5. Adhere 3×3 and stamped image to base.
_
6. Adhere the sentiment and fiber to card base.
_
7. Adhere the flower to the card base.
_
8. Adhere cardfront to 8×5 1/2 cardstock… and voila!!!
Wow I have never even heard of the Gamsol technique. I love it. I think I need a card that doesn’t look so complicated to start with. (any suggestions)
Thank you
Linda in Stanwood
beautiful!!! I would luv a video to show the complete blending process…please Megan
Such a pretty card!! You’re great with those pencils! Thanks for sharing!
Ooh, lovely card TFS. I wonder if that’s the same technique as I’ve just started using OWS ( odourless White spirits) although I think in Usa i think White spirits is known as something else!
Great instructions. Look forward to lots more ideas!
Keep em coming!!
Jeannette, the odorless white spirits are called mineral spirits here in the US.
What a great process. I have never heard of this either. Really different. I like this blog because when you click on it you are always surprised…..
This is a beautiful piece of art. How did you make the flower? It’s the perfect touch!
Tell us more about Prismacolor pencils using the Gamsol technique. 😀
I’ve never used this technique either, but it is beautiful. Great Job, TFS
Sandy
I wanted to show you a video that shows prismas and Gamsol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8ant0uqh38
Maybe that will help some of you –
I also will try to do a video similar to show the techniques and such 😉
I loved the card and new process, and I have a suggestion for Linda’s dilemma. Don’t bother with the antiquing/distressing of the cardstock, if that is difficult. And just stamp your image with a colored ink, or just black and white. You add a little color with a cute ribbon and the back 3×3 card that is the same color as the ribbon, or a complimentary color. Good luck!
I love using this technique…also Goo-Gone will give very similar results with the Prisma Pencils.
I love my Prisma Pencils!! I just buy the oderless mineral spirits at Wal-Mart.
Another product and technique to play with!! So pretty-will check out that video.
So looking forward to all the new designersand Club Ruby
Thanks Meg!
That DID help!
And I’ll be watching for yours too. 😀

I am excited to see that there is a blending solution for Prisma colored pencils. I think that my mother bought me some and I’d really like to use them instead of investing in the Copic markers.
I love this look. I have watercolor pencils that I might use this solution to see if the result is similar or what. Adorable.
Hi:
beautiful card, could you tech us how to make that flower PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sudzui@yahoo.com
Your card is adorable, and I love your instructions —- they are so nice and clear—even a dead head like me can figure it out—-Thank You so much—Nancy
I LOVE this technique and have been doing several different versions of it myself. It’s so fun. I ordered a blender pen that came with the Gamsol already in it and it made some of the blending easier but I like doing it with the stump myself too! You can see some really quick and easy cards I did with this technique too here www://thelazymac.blogspot.com. Megan got me started on cards several months ago and I’ve been addicted ever since! LOL
Oh and just for the record Nancy this is gorgeous! I absolutely love your coloring.
I really need to try the Gamasol and Primacolor technique out–I bought it but have chickened out on trying it. I have done the water color pencil though.
Lovely card.
Great Tutorial! Your card is beautiful!
CindyB
