Happy Veterans Day and a BIG Thank You to those who protect our freedom!
I wanted to take a little time out today to mention Veterans day! Today is Veterans day and it holds a personal place in my heart because my husband, Sean, served in the Air Force for 4 years. While he and I were not married at the time he served, we were friends and I remember many nights chatting with him over AOL Instant Messenger while he was in Germany and other places around the world.

I’m thankful for his time in the US Air Force for many reasons, but I would say the#1 reason is because of the sense of great appreciation and respect he’s brought to our family for all who have served and serve now… for the sense how real the cost of freedom is and how we should always cherish it, be responsible with it and never take it for granted.
We know that countless others have given their lives to protect the freedom we have in this country and we are TRULY thankful and blessed.
My grandfather also served during World War II in the 42nd Rainbow Division – I know he lost his best friend during the war and I know many others have as well.
The price of freedom certainly isn’t free and remembering that and taking time to say “thank you” to family, friends, and those who have served at any time, in anyway, should not be forgotten.
All this is meant as a way to say THANK YOU to so many! To those of you who have lost loved ones… to those of you who spend nights alone crafting, who are away from their spouses or families, and to those who have given their lives… now and years past…. We thank you and we salute you!

I retired after 34 years of military service. I hold in my heart love and respect for any Veteran. I know from experience how hard it is to serve. God bless our Veteran’s and God bless the USA.
I am proud to tell you that my husband and daughter served in the US Air Force. My husband retired in 2008 with 25 years service. He is now an civilian instructor for jet engines at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. Our daughter served for 6 years in the US Air Force with two tours in Afghanistan. My husband and our daughter gave so much of their lives to their military service, but they also received so much back from the USAF. My husband received his Bachelor’s degree in 2003 and our daughter is currently working on finishing her Bachelor’s degree. When I see young people not appropriately saluting our flag when the national anthem is played, I wonder if they really understand the freedom this country has given them because our military members fought for that freedom. Thanks to all those who have served and are serving in the US Military.
I am proud to say that I have a husband that served in Vietnam. He put his life on the line, and I am glad that he came home so that I could meet him. He is a great man that has risen above the troubles of the time. I give all respect to him and to all of our men and women in the armed forces. Be ye brave and fight for our freedoms.
My father, who passed away in 2007, inlisted in the National Guard in 1939, when he was 17 years old – he lied about his age in order to inlist. When WWII was declared, he was released from the National Guard in order to inlist in the Army. When the Army/Air Corp was created he was selected to become a bomber pilot, and eventually a flight instructor. At the end of WWII he was discharged from the Army, and immediately inlisted in the newly created Air Force. He went on to become a Command Pilot of B52s, was also an Accident Investigator, and served in the Command Post. When he finally retired from the Air Force in 1965, he went to work for The Boeing Company, here in Seattle, where he helped to write the flight manuals for Air Force One until he retired a second time in 1983. I cannot begin to tell you how proud I have always been of my father, his accomplishments, and his service to our country. I wish he were still with us so I could thank him for his patriotism and for his many years of service to his country. My heartfelt gratitude goes out today to all the courageous men and women who have served our country over the years.
A big THANK YOU to all those who have served and to those who are serving this great country! I appreciate you defending our country and keeping us safe. Each and every serviceman and servicewoman should be so very proud of what you have done and/or are doing. Thank you!!!

My husband came from a military family where their father and 4 of the 6 boys were all in the Service, three of them making it their career, i.e., Army, Air Force, and Marines!
A big URAH to all those who are serving now, or served in the past. My DH is a retired Marine with a little over 20 years in. We are so proud of him and all the fighting men and women who have given so freely their lives so we, as a nation, can remain free.
I want to say a BIG “Thank You” to all of our MILITARY! My hubby served 24 years, my Daddy served 27! I am proud to be a “Navy wide” and a “Air Force daughter”! I too want to thank all of our service men and women for our freedom. I am very proud of my husband who served in Viet Nam. I am just so proud to be an American.
My new son in law was injured in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger shortly after he and my daughter started dating. He spent 2 yrs and some 16 surgeries in Walter Reed Army Medical Center, during which time he lost his Father to a short battle with cancer directly related to his exposure to agent orange during the Vietnam war.. Praise the Lord he is walking and working as a civilian and they were married this past July! All things we prayed for but weren’t sure would be possible. Thank you to Captain Paul Cote Jr. and Paul Cote Sr. and all the other Paul Cote’s out there who have given so much for our freedom. Your sacrifice and bravery are appreciated beyond any words I have to express.my thankfulness. May God Bless our Troops and place a hedge of protection around each and every one of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
My special thanks to ALL who serve in the military, for protecting my country. You are all so appreciated and we don’t do enough for you to say THANK YOU to infinity. My nephew had two tours in Iraq and I am truly grateful he made it home. My heart goes out to those families who have lost loved ones. I hope the boys and girls come home soon to be reunited with their dear hearts.
Thanks to all who served in the military and other service organizations. As the wife of a retired Army aviator and mother of a son who served in the Navy (as well as having my father-in-law, 4 brother-in-laws, an uncle, a nephew, and a niece who served in various branches of the military), I know well how the military life can be. I want to give a shout-out of thanks to all the family members who stood behind their loved ones while they served out country. I know they too sacrificed for their country by supporting their veterans’ choice to serve. Thanks to all who are currently serving as well!
A huge THANK YOU to those who are serving now & those who have served in the past. My cousin lost his life in Vietnam and my Dad was a Military Police Officer after WWII in Germany. My uncle Jon was a ‘subber’ in WWII and there were a lot of time that no one heard from him or about him. Protecting our freedom is the noblest of careers and God Bless those who do it for us!
May we never forget those who have served our countries, in the past, present, & those who will serve in the future.

Thank you to all who have served. That includes my grandfather (WWI), my father (WWII), my brother, my 2 sons. One served in Air Force and was in Saudi during Desert Storm. The other was i the Navy. We need to pray for those still serving and for our country – it needs it now more than ever. God bless the USA.

My father served in WW II and in looking at the pictures he brought and sent home when I put together a Military Album in his memory, I know that he was honored and happy to serve his country. It was probably one of the most valuable times of his life when what he was doing meant more than just service. He followed up his service by joining the town police force as a part time officer. Thank you to all of you who are veterans and have or are serving our country.

My dad was in the Korean war. My brother was in the Navy then the army for qutie a few years.
I am so thankful for brave men and women you are willing to protect our country.
Thank you to all the military personnel who have protected our country. My thoughts are with all of those men and women who have returned to our country with mental and physical ailments. Those who don’t have a job. Those who are still alive but are unable to have a quality life because of injuries suffered for us while they were fighting for our freedom. We need to remember and help them now. Thank you and prayers to all of you.

How can we possibly thank our military enough for their sacrifice? I’m beyond grateful for each and every member of the past and present armed forces member and their families. My oldest son joined the Marine delayed entry program in 2010. He graduated high school last June and left for Parris Island 3 days later. My other 3 children, my husband & I miss him very much and can’t wait until Christmas when he plans to come home. We are very proud of him and wish him happy and safe travels while protecting our country and doing what he always dreamed of.

My neohew served in Desert Storm I have had many friends and family members who served in Korea and Viet Nam. Some who lost their lives in Viet Nam and some who died later from effects of Viet Nam. My Great Nephew is following in his father’s footsteps and just joined the Air Force. I have great respect for all of these ladies and men who chose to serve and I certainly appreciate them. Many peopple don’t take in to consideration that the people that have joined the armed services in the past 30-40 years do this on their own, there is no draft involved. What a huge sacrifice.
I NEVER take for granted the freedom we have. Our country is so fortunate to have selfless and dedicated people who continue to fight for our freedom and rights. Each and every military personnel are heros in their own right and deserve our gratitude and respect, not only on this Remembrance Day but every day of the year. A heart felt thank you to all those who have served, continue to serve and will serve in the future.
I want to give thanks fto all those spouses of our service men. A special thanks to the wife of a former serviceman (who has since passed away) on her birthday today (11-11-11) named Sandy Patten. May this be a special birthday Sandy.

I am a super proud military mom! My two boys have served our country and they make me proud. My oldest son has delployed 4 times to Iraq and will be deploying for this 5th deployment in 2012 to Afgan. My middle son will be coming home from Afgan in just a few weeks!! Our soldiers from all over the US are just awesome. I want to take the time to thank them for protecting our freedoms as well as our country! They rock!!! I also want to take the time to thank their families-they hold everything together at home while our soldiers work so hard to do their jobs. The United States is such an awesome place and I am proud to call it my home and it is because of our wonderful Soldiers! Thank you all whether you are full time military or part time military!!! I have never been more proud of you all!!!

As I look out the window and see the snow falling, while sitting in my nice warm home, I wish the same for all our military that are overseas, or stationed away from their families. I grew up an Army brat and my father served 25 years in the Army. He served in WWII and the Korean conflict. He is no longer with us but I just wanted everyone to know how proud of him I am and how proud to b his daughter. My husband, son and 2 daughters also served in the Army. A big THANK YOU to all the men and women who served.

My father served in Guadal Canal in World War II. He signed up for the Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor, much like so many did in 2001 right after the attack on the World Trade Center. He taught me respect for those who served and a patriotism that ran deep. He passed away several years ago, but every Veteran’s Day, I feel like he’s with me. I love you, Dad. Thank you for protecting my freedom.
My dad served in WW11 and my brother was in the Marines during Viet Nam, although he never was shipped over there. I work with a young guy right now who is going into the Marines and if he is any indication of the people serving our country…we are in good hands. It takes a special person to serve in the military and my hat is off to every one of them and to their families.
Thank you for your tribute to veterans. I was in college during the Vietnam War and am still appalled at how they were treated. My grandfather was in WWI and my father was in WWII.
I send care packages to a nephew of a friend and at Christmas get an address to send gifts. I try to thank servicemen when I’m in an airport or traveling.
As a grandmother I can’t imagine having a grandson or granddaughter serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. I hope that none of us forget the sacrifices military families have made for us. God bless them all.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone that has served and is currently serving our wonderful country. We support you and THANK YOU for all your sacrifices! I would like to thank all the men and women in the Armed Forces, but especially to my Dad a WWII vet…He is now 86 yrs young and soon to 87. He is still serving his country by welcoming home all Vets in his area after their tour of duty. He had the honor to be chosen to take the Honor Flight to Washington D.C…He loves his country and is trying to make his grandchildren and great- grandchildren know the meaning of being an American…Thanks DAD.

Having said that, we owe more that can be said to those who serve and protect both here and abroad. Both my husband and son served in the US Navy. My husband for 4 years and son for 12. Thank you to all our Veterans today. My husband served in the Navy, my Dad in the Navy and my Father in Law in the Army. I am so thankful they all made it home safely, as all served during war times. It is a great sacrifice to both the person and their families. Today is a day to remember and thank all those who make and have made that sacrifice to keep the rest of us safe and allow us the Freedoms we take for granted every day. I’d like to thank all the military families for their service to us here and abroad. My brother is serving in the Air Force. Did his tours to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. It was very difficult thinking of my baby brother in harms way but I am proud of him and his buddies. Who never flinched instead told us this was what they have trained for and they were ready for whatever was sent their way.
I am also grateful for an Air Force who brought my brother and his family home from Guam when his infant suffered a stroke at 3weeks of age. Has been understanding of the time he needed to spend with his family while she was in the hospital for a year for a transplant (she was born with SCID, no immune system). They gave him 2months leave so he could be in the next state over during her pre chemo prep and transplant. I saw first hand how much work it is to be a spouse or child of a military person. The families are in my thoughts always along with their military spouse. My heart aches for those who have suffered and the all too many lives lost. Thank you so much for all that you give and have given to us!

My family was all service, my dad was in the Navy, brother in the Navy, husband was Army, son in law was Marines and grandfathers were Army. I don’t think a lot of people understand what it takes to make a country free. I just want to say a big thank you to all my brothers in uniform. I served in the U.S Air Force for 12 years (1992-2004) and I know of the sacrafices and the determination it takes to be a soldier. I commend all of our service members past and present for a job well done! Thank you so much for your service whether it be in the past or current and know that everyone back on the homefront are praying for you and love you! God Bless.

I would like to give a big thank you to all the Veterans. I appreciated our men and women especially as I work on an Air Force base and I see our military working every day. I also share an office with an Army veteran retired after 22 years. I am really proud of him as I am of every soldier I see every day and thinking of all others on duty.

My husband’s father served in WW2, my best friend’s brother is active military, my father spent many years in the militia, and my neighbor fought in Vietnam. I’m bursting with pride for them all, and every single man and woman who has chosen to protect us in this way.
Words cannot adequately express how appreciative our family is for the service these brave men and women have made on all of our behalf. We enjoy so many freedoms that are often taken for granted by many, but freedom has a price and these brave heros have paid it. My heart hurts for those families who’s hero have paid the ultimate sacrifice; they will never be forgotten and will always be true heros. To those brave men and women who have given a part of their lives to serve in our various branches of military in past and present wars, you are true heros as well. We appreciate you and your families SO very, very much. May God bless each of you and may God continue to bless America.

You were so right when you said the cost of freedom isn’t free. Generation after generation in my family has proudly served to protect our shores. Now my grandson and great nephew are serving in Afghanistan. Another great nephew has done several tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. Twice a year we travel to Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, IL with the Veterans Club to visit soldiers in the various wards of the hospital. We simply sat and talked with the soldiers one on one. We would take cookies and other goodies and just spent the day. It was something I will never forget, regardless of their condition they were so appreciative of our visits. We in turn saw first hand the many sacrifices that were made both physical and emotional.
My son-in-law served in the Marine Corps Reserves in Afghanistan two years ago. I had a great-uncle who served in the Army during World War II. I am SO appreciative of all that is given by our military personnel (and their families at home) for the freedoms we have in the United States. To all those serving and that have served – Thank You!
I am so thankful for the men and women of our armed forces! My grandfather served in the Korean War, and I know how hard it was for him. Many years later he could not talk about it very often. I only wish I had had the chance to take him to the Korean War Memorial in DC. I am wanting to make a tribute album for him, and plan to use one of these awesome albums to do it, regardless if I win or lose. What a great giveaway in honor of those who have given so much!!!!!!
Thank you to my Uncle for serving for many, many years in the Marines and to my little Brother who is stationed in Japan right now. your jobs are so important.
I would like to say thank you to the men and women that have and are currently serving! Also, the families! As an active duty member myself married to another member, I know the scarfices we make.

As an Air Force wife for 30 years, I have seen the the sacrifices that both the military members and their familues make for their country and our freedom. Just want to say a big thank you to all of them. We really appreciate what you do.
My husband and I both served. We met while serving in Germany, but did not marry until we got back to the USA. We both come from long lines of family members who also served. I like finding military related stickers, albums ect so I can save our memories for my children and other generations.
Five men in our family have served (husband, uncle, father-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law) and I am so proud of each one. Thank you for the opportunity to thank them in a more public way!
Thanks to all who served. Today I will be going to the schools in the area to talk about serving and of course attend a special ceremony honor the WWI and all who served. Then it is off to a special dinner for all veteran’s

There are really no words to say “Thank You” enough for all we enjoy because of the sacrifice and the love of country our military and our Public Servants provide for us. My Mother and Father are both Marines, Father In Law career Air Force. I can hardly hear the National Anthem without crying and realizing those words describe each and every one of our proud American Soldiers. Thank You from the bottom of my heart. I sleep soundly at night because of all you do!
On Friday, Nov 4, one week ago, I retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service and each and everyday I am humbled by the sacrafices made by those in uniform! Thankyou! To all my fellow veterans, past, present and future!
Words cannot express how thankful we are to our service members, past-present-future, who have given so much for us and our country. Proud of my Husband, who has served in the USMC and was in Operation Desert Storm and currently serves in The AF Reserves. Even more proud when my son tells me he wants to join the service when he grows up! Thank You!!

Thanks to all who serve or have served. My church is having a special rememberance this Sunday for all family memebers past and present who contributed to our freedom. My father-in-law, husband and now son all have chosen the military as thier profession and serve with pride.

My husband is a 24 year veteran of the USARMY. He has had the pleasure of serving in Berlin, GE during the cold war and the fall of the Berlin Wall. He served 12 straight months in Iraq during O.I.F 1& 2—the beginning of the war. He proudly and honorably wore the uniform. He would never brag of any of his accomplishments–and doesn’t–because he knows many gave much more than he did. THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES! I am SO proud of him and all the Veterans who do so much for so little gratitude. It is so nice to have this day when we can celebrate these men and women’s accomplishments and service to all of us! Veterans AND their families sacrifice more than anyone can really understand— unless they have been through it. So, thank you veterans for serving us well, and for making and keeping this the land of the free and the home of the brave. Especially thank you to my two nephews, niece, and most importantly my husband. God HAS Blessed America!!!

My father-in-law served in the Army in WWII and was in the fighting in Europe. My brother served in the Army and went to Vietnam. Before I met my husband, he had served in the Marines. I know what that kind of stress does to all the men and women who serve our country. Not to mention the fact that they have family left behind to carry on without their husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons. I appreciate all they and their families sacrifice for our freedom and the protection of our country. Thank you for this spotlight on the past and present veterans.

I want to Thank all the service men and women for keeping us SAFE. My nephew, Tim served two tours in Iraq, he is home now. My niece is in the Air Force reserves and is in Germany right now. She is a nurse and takes care of the soldiers on the plane. She served in Qatar last year; she has great compassion for the soldiers. I have cousins who served in Vietnam and very grateful they all came home. God bless our veterns.

Nothing could be more important on this day than thanking the thousands of men and women who bravely serve our country to protect our freedom. My son is a U.S. Marine and my HERO. I’m so proud of his decision to bravely serve and for the duties he performs. I pray for his safety and for all the other American heroes. I’d like to share a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson-“A HERO is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver….five minutes longer.” God Bless America.

Honoring those that gave up their lives, their families, and sometimes their life so that I could go on with mine and enjoy living is not just a one day holiday for me. I keep this in mind every day. When I read about an attack that kills one of our young soldiers I cry, My grand father, my dad, my uncle and my husband of 45 years all served. I feel that my mom and I also served as we were without our dad and husband for long periods of time. I always feel for the children of soldiers and many times cry when I see all those surprised reunions on TV. On these special holidays I always say a special prayer for our Vietnam Nam vets, who were sent off to fight, and then returned home only to be spit upon…I think how could our country turn our backs on our soldiers that way. Many still carry mental scars of that treatment today. Sorry didn’t mean to ramble in my comment.
I know what you are saying about Vietnam. My husband still carries the mental scars of that war. This past May when we went to a Professional Bull Riding event in Pueblo, CO and were at a Wild West days street fair, he bought and Vietnam vet hat for the very first time. He wore it that day and had so many comments of “Thanks for your service” after 40 some years. It brought him to tears. It was a pretty emotional day for him and myself as well.
As a genealogist, I have been researching my family (both sides) for over 15 years. I have discovered a Revolutionary War hero (Sybil Ludington), many who fought and died in the Civil War, some who fought in WWI, WWII (one to note is my grandpa Nelson), The Spanish-American War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf war, and some who are presently serving. I cannot say thank you enough. That would not let you know how much I love each of you and the sacrifice you and your family gave so we can be free.
If I won one of these kits, I would use it to highlight one of these ancestors.

I have to say that when I was in high school my boyfriend served in the the military and although were are not together he is still and active member in the Army National Guard. I remember writing the letters of encouragement to him and his brother. I appreciate what the military does for all of us both near and far.
A great big THANK YOU to all who have and are currently serving to ensure we remain a free nation. I’ve had several family members who served and currently have a friend and neighbor serving. She has had to leave her family, including a six month old infant, to serve. Bless them all.
I always make a point to say thank you any armed service people that I meet when I am out and about. My brother served in Vietnam and my Dad was in the 1st division during World War 2. He actually landed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion and spent the next 4 years fighting in the front lines. He was injured but thankfully made it home when the war ended. He lost many friends. These brave men and woman and their families sacrifice so much for us. There is simply no way that we could adequately repay them. But I think that we need to continue to think of ways that we can support them. Since we are crafters thats a good place to start. In closing, May God bless and protect all of our brave men and woman who are serving all over the world.
As a former military spouse my hat is off to all those who served, past and present, and even those about to serve our nation. My husband served in the USN for 27 years, our son served in the USA and is currently in the TX Nat’l guard. His Father-in-law served in the AF. Our Son-in-law is in the USA and his father was in the USAF. We have a neices and nephews that are also either serving or have served. Am so very proud of all of them.
I am sending my heartfelt “THANKS” to all those who are serving and have served this wonderful country of ours! We are fortunate enough to travel this beautiful land, visiting all the wonderful areas there are here, and truely appreciate the freedom our heros have protected with their lives. As a daughter of a Navy SeaBee (WW 2) ,and a mother of 2 former Army soldiers, I also want to thank the families who support their soldiers, miss them, worry about them and unfortunately, bury them sometimes. You have a tough job helping your loved ones do an even tougher job. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!
It is imporant to stand still and remember those who serve and those who have given their lives to protect us and our families. One of my Grandsons just got out of the Navy where he served on the USS Carl Vinson, where his wife is still stationed. They were both on the ship when it “disposed” Osama bin Laden. His brother is an MP in the Army, currently deployed in Afghanistan. He already has a tour in Iraq under his belt. Their Father was in the Army, their Grandfather was a Marine in VietnAM
A heartfelt thank you to all the men serving today as well as veterans of previous wars. My father was in World War II and husband served in Vietnam. We are so very blessed to live in this country of many freedoms we enjoy daily. Each new day I arise I thank the Lord for these freedoms.

Thank you cannot begin to say what I truly feel about our military men and women. My grandfather was a WWII vet and the things he had to do & see were beyond what anyone should. My nephew is on his 5th tour in Afhanistan right now. He is so skilled at what he does and truly loves serving his country. A good friend of mines daughter is on her first tour and the age of 18 – she has left her young daughter at home – I can’t imagaine how she feels.

Thank you for the opportunity and introduction to the Uniformed Scrapbooks of America product line. I have a very dear friend whose son is in the Marine Corp. I have been following his career choice since the beginning and have been building a special book just for him. He is serving in Afghanistan now. I talk to his mom and many times we are chatting through the night – waiting for news from Afghanistan. We often talk about the anxieties that the families go through on the home front. The media is quick to announce fatalities and injuries over seas but it takes time for families to be notified. Meanwhile they are waiting on pins and needles praying that it is not their son or daughter and then feeling guilty because they can empathize with the families who have lost a loved one.
I want to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to all who are currently serving and to those who have served in our Armed Forces. They have taken the oath to protect our county and to be willing to put their lives at risk for us! They are the true hero’s of the world. This country would not be what it is today without them!! Thank you and God Bless

I want to thank all of the vets in my family, but especially John Laybourn, my great, great uncle, who died in WWI. He was born and raised in England, served in the Royal Navy, and ended up emigrating to Canada. He fought in the Canadian Army but was killed by German mustard gas in the 2nd battle of Ypres. Thank you for serving two countries John!

I would like to say Good Morning and Happy Veterans Day to my wonderful husband who has served so far 16 years in the US Navy. He has worked long and hard hours alone with thousands of other men and women in the service over his 16 years of active duty. We have seen many many friends come and go over our time in the navy. Service men and women are some of the pest people you will ever meet. In our times that have been spent with these wonderful friends you form a bond and a extended family. When we lost one it hurts us all. I know I am so very greatful to have my husband and extened family even through we are all scattered all over the US and over seas on this Veterans Day. My heart is with everyone who is serving now and who has served in the past and who will serve in thier future. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you and your familys sacrifice each and everyday to serve our country. Bless you all.

I want to thank all the men and women who have served this country in the past and still serving today for the freedom that we have in this country. We are still the greatest country in the world to live in. During this time of unrest we are still a great country and with God watching over us we will again recover. This country is made up of great Americans and will come back. I remember my father being gone. He was in the Navy and is now 86 years old. I called him today and told him thanks for all he did for his country. My boyfriend is 63 and I thanked him for his service in Vietnam. We have many friends that did not come home and paid the ultimate price for freedom. Our flag flies proudly daily on my front porch. There is just somthing about looking out and seeing that flag flying so proudly that would touch any American Heart with joy and love. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. God Bless The USA!
For all those that have given of their time, families and loved ones I thank you personally for your service to our country. It takes someone special to be able to give of themselves so unconditionally that they would lay down their lives for others. You are truly heroes in every sense of the word.

My father was very proud to be a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 34 years. He like many others, lied about his age so he could join. He served during the Koren Conflict and each Remembrance Day in our home town, he would proudly place a wreath on behalf of the Canadian Forces. As I was driving to choir practice last night, a neighbouring church had a beautiful sign – – “Our freedom came at a price – please remember those who paid the bill.”

My son Joshua is in the u.s. Marines i been so proud of him seeing him being swear in and watching his graduation from boot camp crying throught it all. He dosn’t know how much i appreciated what he did for our country. I have never been so proud of him as i’m today. Ours is a military family. Every generation of my husband’s family (including my husband who served in Vietnam as a Sailor) has served in the military since the Revolution. My family too has served. My Dad, who was a first-generation American, served in the Pacific in World War II (and so did his brothers) and he spent 30 years in the Army. My Mom moved her family 20 times in the first 12 years they were married. My sister and her husband both served in the Air Force. Her daughter was an Airman and her son was a Marine. My son was a Soldier and served with the Army in Iraq at the very start of the war. He enlisted before 9/11. I’ve been lucky! My dad, husband, and son all returned from their wars with no major injuries and to families that understood the toll that war takes. God Bless our service men and women.
I am a Canadian who is very proud to know we are able to help the USA serve through such terrible war battles. I had a uncle who died serving in the past war years ago. The human loss is so tragic to us all and I pray one day it will all end. Wars are so unnecessary. Who wins in the end?? God bless our troops!!

I would like to send out a heart felt thank you to all who serve in so many ways whether as a solidier, family member or volunteer. So many of us have lost sight of the freedom given to us first, by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who died for us and secondly through the sacrifice by so many past, present and future in tears, loneliness, love ones, uncertainity and dedication to secure our comfortable lives every day. As U.S. citizens it is difficult to understand how precious our freedom is and how much our lives would be affected with the loss of the freedoms we so easily take for granted. My father served 42 years in the navy and reserves. My brother and best friend served in the military for many years. I have never stepped on a front line, felt the loneliness, fear or sadness a solider feels but I know I need to be so enormously greatful everyday that I go where I choose and worship where I choose because of the many sacrifices made. I have choosen to use my craft to make handmade cards for Operation Write Home as one small way to show appreciation but what our vetrans really need is our prayers! Our country needs our prayers! Please take a few minutes today and send up a prayer that we collectively return to a God fearng, God following country. Pray that we as a country will realize how far we have traveled off the path that our founding fathers destined for us to travel instilling everyday honor, integrity, accountability. Thank you again to all those who have given sooo much for me and my family! God Bless you!

Megan, my father lied about his age (he was only 17), and enlisted in the Navy just before WWII broke out. In fact, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, but left a week or so before Dec. 7th. When WWII broke out, he drove the pontoon boats that opened in the front, and dropped our men on the beaches. In fact, he came so close to being shot, that he developed a blister on his ear from a bullet. I was very proud of my Dad, and although he never talked about it, I know that he lost several friends during the war. My young nephew is an Army Ranger today, and recently qualified for the “special forces unit”. I see in him the pride that my father had, and know that it takes a special person to help keep America safe, and families free. My hat is off to all who have served or are now serving in the military. God bless you, and God bless America!

A big Thank you also goes out to the families left behind that “keep it all togehter” while their loved one is serving and sacrificing. My husband spent 15 months in Iraq, and I can tell you that its a hardship for all involved, but we are proud, and wouldn’t have it any other way!
This is so great. I appreciate everyone who is working so hard to protect the freedoms we take for grant here in America. On a personal note I have a sister serving in the Navy and I love her for all she does for ir country. It can be hard leaving her kids when she gas overseas tours bur she makes the mist of it and never complains. I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs. My husband is a Marine who served in Vietnam and my Father in Law served in Korea. I am extremely proud of all the men and women who serve and have served our country. The sacrifices made by these men, women and their families is a testament to our great nation. We are forever indebted to them for our freedoms. God bless all!

Thank you to all who serve in the armed forces to protect those of us at home. I lost my eldest brother, an Army career office,r in 1969, during his second tour of duty in Viet Nam. He left a wife and three small children behind. I know that there are hundreds and thousands of lives that have been torn apart. Thank you to those who continue to enlist and serve to keep us free and safe at home. God bless you!
We are very thankful to all the Veterans! Our family knows the price of freedom…it is represented by the empty seat at the table during all of our holidays. It is a tradition that was started by my Aunts many years ago and even though we do not now have any immediate family serving our Great Nation, we still carry on the tradition. I truely think that it helps us remember, it makes us stop and think about all the families who have the empty seat at their table and it is not because of a tradition but because their loved one is away from home fighting and protecting our freedom.
Just this morning our 1st grade son was talking about the date being all ones (11-11-11) and how totally awesome that is. My DH and I then took the time to point out that it is also Veterans Day. We got on the internet and showed him what that means with pictures and then helped him to understand what it means with stories that have been passed down through our families. Although many would think that maybe our children are too young to be told some of the stories we feel that if we don’t start telling them now, teaching then now, we will be doing an injustice to our children and those who serve and protect us.

I have a very dear friend and both her sons are at war. They are Marine Commandos and have very specialised jobs. I pray for them every day and I am so proud to know them and admire their mother and fathers courage and strength. God bless them all American and Scottish.

First of all I would like to thank all veterans. My dad, and two of his brothers served during World War II. He was very proud of his service to this country. He would always insist on buying products made in America. Even though he has been gone over thirty years, I still miss him. I also would like to thank my cousin’s son, Rich, who is an active member of the military having served in Iraq. The whole family is very proud of him. My husband and his brother served during the Vietnam era – my husband in the Army and his brother in the Navy. Again, thank you to all our active servicemen and women and to all our veterans.
It is humbling to read all these posts of service and gratitude. My family and I are are blessed to know relatives and friends who have served and are serving presently. The military and families deserve our prayers for all they do. God bless them.

My grandfather served in WW 1 and my uncles in WW 2 and Korea. My cousins are now serving in the services. Do yo health issues, my father only served in ROTC while enrolled at Purdue University.

I have had many family members serve in all branches the military. My father served in world war II and we’ve had family members of the family in the military ever since. Many have made it a career and are retired military. My heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones because of war. For those of us who have seen it first hand we can truly understand the committment and dedication it takes. Not just from the service man or woman but the entire family along the way. To those who have served and fought for the freedoms we enjoy I say a great big THANK YOU! For those who mock and cut down our military I say shame on you. It is a sacrifice you will never understand for a country you will never appreciate fully.

My father served in the Navy during WWII, although he didn’t really talk about it much to me or my sister. One evening when my husband and I were in town visiting my dad, he sat and talked with my husband for several hours about his experiences during his time in the Navy. I could hear parts of the conversation and learned a lot about my dad, more than I had in the 50+ years that I had known him. I was a little upset that he never thought he could share this with me, I would have been so willing to listen! I have so much respect for the men and women who serve our county, their families and loved ones also. They all give up so much for us, more than we can ever imagine! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
My dad joined up with the U.S. Army when he was 16 years old and says he did some fighting in Vietnam before they found out his age and discharged him. We could never find the records for him because there was a fire in Charleston, NC (I THINK that’s where the records were) that destroyed many records. We KNOW he was in the Army because he had “yearbooks” that we would look at as children. When he passed away, there was a simple service for him where we were presented with an American flag and words of thanks were said on behalf of the President of the United States and its citizens. It made me feel so proud and grateful.
My father-in-law spent a lifetime of service in the Air Force, serving in both wars and raising his family while in service in Hawaii and also Japan. My son was named after John, and resembles him in so many ways. When he passed away last December, his service included the chilling rifle salute, taps and a flag-folding detail performance. My son was given John’s dogtags, since they now bear HIS name.
Very grateful to these two men and to ALL men and women who give up lives of comfort and leisure to serve their country!
I always felt that Veteran’s Day was in the best month ever…a month to give GRATITUDE to all our service men and women. My heartfelt thanks for your all. My son is in the Army and while in bootcamp saw the album online. I have tons of pictures that I want to scrap. Again a very special thanks for all men and women, past, present and future who provide us with the freedom we have!
Good Morning Megan, Thank you for remembering our Veterans on your blog today. I am very thankful for all Veterans including my husband, my grandfather, my great-great grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-laws, cousins, and nephews. They followed their calling and served our great Country. And to all the Veterans’ families who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve, may you always know how much your loved ones courage, bravery, and dedications means to me.
Thank you to all of the military personnel who protect us each and everyday. You make living in this world a better place.
Where do I start? I have (had) many family members who have served. My DH was in the Navy during Vietnam. Just saying “Thank you” doesn’t seem to be enough, yet most service people I tell that to are so grateful for that small acknowledgement.
God bless our vets and our currently active troops. Without them, life as we know it would probably be so very different.
I am so thankful to all of our amazing soldiers who have served or are currently serving. Today is especially important to me and my family. My husband has missed many holidays, birthdays, our kids milestones, games, school events and just time together. He recently returned from what is hopefully his last tour after serving in Panama, The Gulf War, Bosnia and twice in Afghanistan. I am so proud of him for his service to our country and so thankful to God for keeping him safe and bringing him home to us. God Bless our soldiers.
I too have family in the military. My daughter is married to Brandon who is in the Army. Brandon is going to be deployed again soon. I see how much sacrifice is given. I miss having my daughter living near me, but I know this is a requirement for an Army wife. I would like to thank all those who serve or have served our country. Also, a big thank you to their families…the behind the scenes people who support the decision of their loved ones. God Bless.
Veterans Day is a day to recognize and to honor those who have served our country in the military, whether at home are on foreign soil. My Father served in the army and did a tour of duty during World War II. He was quite young at the time but he would often relate how it felt to return to the US after that time away. My husband did not see any combat or serve on foreign soil but was in the Navy ROTC in college and served aboard ship. Our son entered the army at age 18, served his 4 years and then became a reservist. His unit was activated early in the war with Iraq and he did a tour there. Once home he remained active and served for a time as a recruiter. Next he was attached to a unit in Texas. Last November his unit prepared for a tour in Afghanistan, leaving shortly after Christmas and returning in mid October of 2011. I am proud of the role my family has played in securing our nation’s freedom, protection and for helping to liberate other countries from oppression. Today, I am a very thankful daughter, wife and mother. I’d like to say Thank you to all those who serve and to their families who support them here at home.
Thanks for honoring those who serve/servedd…because of my fathers time in the military, i was able to complete four years of college with out worrying about how my parents would pay for it….the 5th year was on me however, because of a major change…anyway i will be forever grateful for our armed services…thanks again….gwendolyn

It is because of family members, neighbors, and kind strangers that we have the freedoms we enjoy today. It is because of their bravery that I am able to enjoy every day with my two little girls. It is because of their bravery that my little girls will live a happy and safe life. It is because of their bravery that we can all sleep a little sounder at night. Thank you. In honor of all my uncles who have served our country. Several of my uncles served. A special mention to my Uncle, Harry Samuel Gaylord who lost his leg in Vietnam.
And a very very special mention of honor to my dad… Kenneth F Gaylord, Sr. He was a Marine (yesterday was the Marines birthday) and he served in Vietnam. While my dad survived Vietnam without any physical injuries he was never the same mentally after it. The emotional tole it took on him ended up taking his life in November of 1994. I miss him greatly.
I have a great amount of respect for ALL of our men and women who serve our country.
Hi and Happy Veteran’s Day to all. My Dad , brother, and many Uncles and an Aunt served our Country. I am proud of their work. I believe without their efforts our world would be not as good as it is today. They were good people and role models. I say thank you to all our Veterans everywhere.
My husband served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. When he (and many others) came home, they were cursed and called names. While he is proud of his service, it is not something he shares with anyone. I am thankful that America has realized that every person who puts on a uniform to serve our country is a HERO.
These albums are wonderful. So unique. My dad trained for Korea and as they were landing overseas, the was ended. He never actually had to fight, for which I’m grateful. My husband is retired from the Army Reserve with 26 years of service. I have an Aunt who served as a Navy nurse in Vietnam. Lots of uncles, cousins and friends who have served. We are grateful to them all
My father served in WWII and has never been willing to discuss the things that he saw during that time. I don’t know how he carries that pain around every day. I have seen countless friends who served in Vietnam come back with “invisible scars” that affect them the rest of their lives. While war may not be popular and we may not believe in the cause we should never downplay the importance of our fighting men and the sacrifices they and their families have made for our freedom. This is still the greatest country in the world. If you can’t say thanks to a veteran today at least keep them and our soldiers in your hearts and minds.
My son is currently deployed in Afganastain, this is his 5th deployment. We are so proud of him & his family. Please don’t forget the families they to sacrifice for us. Our daughter in law is a rock taking care of 4 children while her husband, there father is away. God Bless them ALL.
My grandfather Thomas Ribble and my great uncle George Ribble Both served in WWII. I know my grandfather was stationed in Hawaii, I do not know where my uncle was stationed. They are both gone now but hardly forgotten and I wish I still had more time with them and their stories and my grandfather and his “racy” photos of woman that were wearing more then some do today. I loved hearing his stories growing up and i wish that my daughter and my nieces and my nephews would have had the opportunity to get to know him and hear the stories behind every single one of his tattoos. I miss you grandpa! I miss you uncle George!
First of all, a great and well-deserved tribute to our Veterans – and, thank you to all Veterans for their service, sacrifice and patriotism. My father was a WWII Veteran and my brother-in-law served in Viet Nam, so I am fully aware of everything that our service men and women do for our freedom. My small town just dedicated a beautiful All Veterans Memorial on the grounds of our American Legion Post. It is very impressive. I would love to win this album and put together a book to donate to our local museum’s military display as an additional honor to our Veterans.In any case, let us all be thankful for those who protect and preserve our freedom and may we never forget. Thank you, again for our freedom.
Thank you to all who serve and their families. My dad is a Vietnam war veteran and my husband currently serve our country. I am very proud of both and all the ones that accept the great responsibility of take care of our freedom and do what is right, although it is so hard some times. My prayers go to them every single day and to their parents, spouses, son and daughters.

I have a family full of retired and active duty service men and women and I want to say thank you to all of them for protecting us. My niece is in Afghanistan right now (be safe Thena) and my oldest son James just got home this year from Iraq (I love you son). When I was a teenager, summer after high school graduation, my sister and I would go out to Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver to visit the soldiers who were recouperating from injuries received in the Vietnam War. Many were just sitting their in bed with no legs, and/or other very serious injuries. ALL were so happy to have someone to talk to and show appreciation for what they had sacrificed. That experience created a soft spot in my heart for all our veterans, but especially those who served in Vietnam. Thank you all!

I have great respect for our military men and women. My father was in the USNavy, his three brothers served in the USArmy, two making it a career. I lost a couple of friends in the Vietnam conflict. My (first) husband served in Vietnam and we were engaged at the time. Our first year together was in the military. It is hard being away from family/friends. I am very Thankful for our guys and gals serving to protect our country! I have relatives who have served in the Army, Airforce, and Marines. My Pop was in Vietnam. His whole platoon was killed except him. He had to play dead and not move or make a sound as the vietcon went around stabing the soliders with bamboo spears. He has several scars on his chest where they stabbed him. One of his lungs collasped from being stabed. I would never have known him if God had not been merciful to him and helped him to be still and quiet. As you see I have a lot to be thankful for. Edwina Brown

My dad was in the Army/AirCorp during WWI stationed in Guam, my cousin(Army) was a POW during the Vietnam War, his brother (AirForce) was in Europe, a very good friend served 3 tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and I lost a very dear friend there too. My husband is a retired Lt.Col, having proudly served 32 years. Every time I see a solider in uniform I think about the brave men and women who have served and still serve and I thank them for their time away from family and friends and for their dedication to our country. I only wish more people would realize what they and their families endure and appreciate them more.

I am truly thankful to the many men in my family who have served in our armed forces. My grandfather and father in law, in world war II, my husband in the Vietnam era, My son during the Iraq and Afganistan wars, My other son served during the 9-11 attack on the twin towers. In the first hours of the attack they were sure they would be called on to defend our country against foreign forces. No one hesitated to pledge their life for their country. The United States are truly blessed. Thank you veterans everywhere.
My father, uncles, and brothers-in-law all served in WW II. The ones who served on the front lines didn’t talk about it much since it was so traumatic to see their fellow servicemen wounded or dying. So many have given so much. I am so grateful for their sacrifice.
My father, who passed away in 1998 at the age of 67, entered Officer’s School in 1951 and eventually retired as a Lt. Col. from the Air Force in the early 1970s. Like all military personnel my family moved a lot… I think my Mom told me 18 places in 20 years! We even lived in Thailand for one year from 1970 to 1971 during the Vietnam War where my Dad flew missions to Vietnam from Thailand. The pride I feel for my father’s service to this great country is beyond words. I thank God every day for him and people like him who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect this great country and our freedoms!

My family includes a great uncle who lost his WWI, my father and his 5 brother whom also served.To my sister and brother also served. To my cousin Fred Quandt who lost his life in Vietnam. Thank you for your beautiful post. My father served and I call him every Veteran’s Day to Thank him. It is a tradition! I have been working on a scrapbook for him and try to add pages as new ideas come. My best friend lost her father several years ago to cancer. He served in WWII and Korea. He received several bronze stars and a silver star. As her first project we have been working on his scrapbook as well. This year we designed purses using patches from their divisions in fabric matching their uniforms. We stenciled them with their names, Proud US Army daughters, and pockets with their names on the flap. Now her grandson is entering the Army, and we will be making a purse for his mother stating she is a Proud US Army Mother.
What an awesome way to celebrate this occasion that is very special to me and my family! My son, Stephen, has just finished serving in the US Army both in Iraq and Afghanistan and we are very proud of him. My father served in the Arny during the Korean war and my father-in-law served in the Pacific theater during WWII. I, myself, served as a US Army Nurse during the Vietnam conflict. Both of my sons played in marching bands during their school years and I must admit when I attend a Veterans Parade, I still cry whenever the service men and women and flag pass by. I am so proud to have served my country and am so thankful for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I hope that no matter what one thinks of the current wars, you will pray for them and their families that worry about their safety every single day. It is truly a sacrifice and a laying down of one’s life for ours. God bless them all!

My father served in the Korean and World War II, My older brother seved during Vietnam. My youngest brother and his wife are in the Airforce and have served overseas. I know firsthand the sacrafices the famalies have to go through. Thank you to all who serve.
My wonderful son-law served in the Marines for 10 years. He came home safe from multi deployments in the middle east and asia. If it were not for all the men and women who left their loved ones to serve our country and keep her FREE I do not think we would be here to post our heartfelt love and gratitude today.
Over 2/3 of my life has been with the military. My husband did 27 years in the Navy, and some of the was on subs. That area of service in the Navy involves a lot of secrecy and where there is secrecy there always seems to be extra danger, even when we weren’t at war. Now, my youngest son, ( my baby boy, he hates that!) is in the Army. He has a college degree and the Army wants him to cross over to be an officer but he refuses. He had a soccer scholarship for college and the Army wanted him to play fulll time for their team and he refused that too. Why would a young guy give up these great opportunities? Well, my son is a Green Beret, and he says he won’t let ANYTHING interfere with that.if her were to become an officer there is no gaurantee that he will remain a Green Beret. He says God made him big, strong and firmwilled for a purpose and his purpose is to protect our country and it’s people as well as other people that are being treated wrongly. I never know where, when, or what he does (talk about secrecy!) but our family and friends always pray for his safety. I’m proud of him and ALL the military men and women, I know the sacrifices they and their families make. Been there, done that and have a closet full of T-shirts!! I love our country and offer my family to it’s services!
Thanks to all our veterans & their families for their sacrifices for our country’s freedoms & security. My daughter & son-in-law are both Navy vets & we are very proud of them. Both served at Oceania Naval Air Station during the last years of their service. I would love making a scrapbook for them with these ingenious new albums. My husband was on a submarine in the Navy for 9 years, my nephew is a Navy pilot currently in the military and my Grand daughters husband is currently in the Navy serving in Spain. A big “Thank You ” to all in the military, God Bless You and keep you all safe.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Freedom is something that should nevet be taken lightly. We lowve our country but those that are selected as our service men and women are actually our saviours, our protectors on earth. Thank you for all you…we love you. Dad it is in honor of you who continues to show me the price he had to pay as he raises his flag every morning and proudly salutes it…he also sits a missing solider at our Thanksgiving table complete with boots, rifle, dog tags, and helmet. My father finished his college degree requirements in Alabama in March 1943. He went directly to Midshipman’s School and served on LST 222 in the pacific. They were involved in 7 invasions and no one received a Purple Heart. They were very blessed. Since he could not return for the graduation walk, he never formally received his college diploma. This bothered him. In 2008 at 88 years old, he walked in the summer graduation. When the audience was told the story, he received a standing ovation. There was not a dry eye in the crowd.
Thank you all who have, are and will serve our country. My grandfathers and father served, along with many friends, some still are active.
I would like to give GREAT THANKS to my grandfathers Carl Bunde & Robert Hesse (R.I.P. both of you) for serving in WWII and Grandpa Spears for serving in WWI. I would also like to thank my Cousins Larry Dishaw & William Bachorski (both active in the US ARMY for serving both in Iraq and Afghanistan) Stephen Freethy (my son’s half-brother) and My Step Son Christopher R. Manning Jr. For serving in the Air Force. And Last but not least any other friends, affiliates or fellow US Citizens that have Served our country protecting us and our Freedom as Fellow US Citizens. My sons both served one in the Marines and one in the Army. Their father served in the Air Force during the Vietnam war. And now my Grandson is (was) serving in in the Army in the Afghanistan front lines in the mountains where he was injured under fire and is now in a hospital in Germany. Looks like he will be returning but to Alaska for rehabilitation. They have cancelled his leave he was to get for Christmas. But we are just thankful he can be rehabilitated and will be safe for awhile. He on the other hand wants to return to duty as soon as possible.

My dad (who passed away 3 years ago at the age of 98) was a Medical Sargeant in WWII. He was sent to the Phillipines. He had never before traveled outside of his small rural childhood area. His 3 brothers also enlisted. One was refused due to diabetes. The other two served in the European Theater. All three came home after the War.
We have had so many relatives and friends who have served/are serving in different branches of the military — Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force. I am proud to say that someone from our family has served in the military since the Revolutionary War.

My husband & I had uncles & his Dad who served in WWII. We have friends who served in VietNam and friends who are in Iraq and all now. We very much appreciate all that they did and are doing. We hope that they can end the present war and all soldiers can come home. God Bless the soldiers and keep them safe.

Freedom truly is not free. Our servicemen and women make sacrifices each day that we may enjoy our way of life. Their families spend countless hours alone, spending holidays without them and praying for their safe return. To all of you, I say thank you! Today I also honor my son who is currently serving in the US Navy. I am so proud of him for his devotion to his country and of his selflessness in giving of himself in order that we remain free. To the multitudes that have served before him, thank you.
I too have a husband who served in Vietnam, He was injured in a parachute accident that left him partially paralyzed. I am thankful for all those who serve and those who like me, wait at home and pray that your loved ones return safely. FREEDOM ISN’T FREE!! God bless every soldier and their families that have fought so hard, and lost so much, through all the wars, to keep our country free!!
My husband is a former Marine – I am so proud of him! I am also very thankful and grateful for all of those who serve our country. We are very blessed to have them watching over us! So to all service members : THANK YOU!!!!! May God watch over you as you watch over us!

My heart goes out to all the military members past and present. Thanks for all the Veterans who have kept our country safe, and thanks to those who are currently serving. I am currently married to a Navy pilot. We have been married for three years, and we are preparing for his second deployment. I pray for all the families with members serving to be strong, and for their service member to return home safe. We would not be the country without all the braves souls who keep us and have kept us safe for all these years. Thank you a million times over. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
My son served in the USAF for four years~ This not only taught him so much about honor and respect for our country, but our whole family sacrificed things and learned from this experience! I recall one night I was up really late getting his Christmas package ready to mail to Alaska~ I was listening to the Christian radio station who were saluting our heros and having interviews with him…..I was missing him terribly and so so sad that he couldnt come home for Christmas..when at 2 am ~ on the radio station ~ he started talking ……wishing mom and dad a Merry Christmas! I bawled my eyes out!!!!! I still cry when I remember that beautiful night in which God blessed me so dearly!
I have always been honored to come from a family (on both sides) that has members that have served or are serving various branches of the Armed Forces. I would like to say thank you to my husband for his 5 years in the Marine Corp, my uncle for his 20 years in the Army, my cousin by marriage for his currently 12 years in the Navy, my other uncle for his 20 years in the Airforce and for my cousin who has been serving in the Marine Corp (including a recent tour in Afghanistan) for the last 10 years. I am truly proud of them for serving our country and the sacrifics they and others like them have made so that we at home can remain free.
A big thankyou for serving: to my brother Duane Bubac who served in Desert storm and many other overseas locations as an enlisted and retired from the Air Force as a SMSgt and my bother in law Eric Choker who served and retired from the AirForce as flight gunner on many overseas deployments. Also, my father in law who served in Iraq during WW II delivering supplies as a train engineer, we thank them and all others who serve now or in the last…a big thankyou! They served us and their fellow servicemen during difficult times.<3.
My Father-in-law served in the military and received a purple heart in the Korean War. I am ever grateful for the men and women who daily put their lives on the line for this country. Military, Police, and Fire.
God bless my grandpa, my best friend Rino, countless friends, students and everyone else who, over the years, has served in our armed forces. Thank you, God, for the fact that I have been particularly blessed in that no one I have loved has ever died, or even been seriously injured, in combat. If only everyone else were so lucky.

After working for the government for 39 years (33 years with the Navy) and having a son serve 4 years in the Marine Corps I know what the veterans have done for our country. I statue each and every one of them and their families. If their families weren’t supportive then they couldn’t do their job. Happy Veteran’s Day!!!!!!!
What a wonderful giveaway as a tribute to our troops. My hubby is retired from the Air Force so the military men and women hold a place if honor in my heart. I have a nephew who just got his orders for AF boot camp!! So nice of you to acknowledge the military!
Hoorah! Happy Veteran’s Day to all the served and continue to serve in our military! My dad is a retired Marine: Sgt. Ontiveros, served 21 years. Lost both knee caps at Dessert Storm and had to retire, if not he would still be active. He now is a Bounty Hunter and Bailbondsman, still serving our community!
So thankful for my Dad who served on the front lines during the Korean war. And extra thankful he made it home! God bless all our men & women who serve!
Many Thanks to all our heroes that help serve and protect this unbelievable country of ours. The dedication, commitment and love for our country is not to be underestimated. I also want to give thanks to the families that endure while their loved ones are away serving. The agony, anticipation and sometimes unfortunate pain that is caused must at times prove to be unbearable. I have 4 members from my family that served in the military. My Grandfather was in the Army during WWII and served in Germany. My Step-Father was in the Marines, my Father was in the Air Force, and my Step-Brother was in the Army. I am very proud of them & all of our service men & women, past & present, and the sacrifices they and their families made for our Country. Without those sacrifices we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today. So I stand & Salute you all! Thanks so very much! God bless America & our service people. Please keep them safe.
I come from a family of veteran’s. My father served 20 years in the Navy during WWII and Korea, my older brother served in the Air Force, I was in the Army (back when they were still called WAC’s), my younger brother is a disabled Navy veteran and my younger sister was in the Air Force. I have been married to a retired Navy man for 40 years and know of the deep sacrifices that we all (service people and spouses alike) make to keep our country safe both here at home and on foreign soil. God Bless our troops and their families.

My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor survivor, the sights he witnessed during the bombing of Pearl Harbor stayed with him til the end. My husband was stationed in Hawaii for most of his active duty time, the sights he witnessed were very much different. I am thankful and grateful to all our men and women that serve with dignity and pride — and to the families of those that gave their all, thank you. May God bless the United States of America.
We are keenly aware of the tremendous sacrifices of our service heroes, and so endlessly grateful not only for them, but also their spouses and children. A family member is a chaplain for the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Once again, thank you all for standing watch for those of us who can’t.
This is so wonderful of you to honor the Veterans of the United States. I, too, was in the Marine Corps, (Vietnam War) it is always bitter sweet when this time of the year rolls around. The Marine Corps birthday was yesterday 11-10 and many of the conservative radio stations mentioned it and it makes me very proud to be a part of a 236 year old group of men & women. Then for all branches to share private moments on Veterans Day. I have been to the Wall, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and other veteran memorials in Wash. D.C., I am so proud of all the men & women who have served in the Armed Forces.

My grandfather and aunt both served in the Air Force, and when I look through their pictures of them in uniform and in front of their craft, I always get such a sense of awe. A huge thanks to all those who have served and who are serving our country! Thank you to their families’ sacrafices as well. I appreciate each and every one defending our country, and they all should be truly proud of what they do and how they have served. Thank you so much!
My dad was a WWII Marine veteran. He served on a small island in the South Pacific where he repaired B-25s that had been in air battles. I am so proud of him and thankful for all of our military personnel. We now live in an area where there is a base for each of the branches of the military nearby. I have even more respect for our soldiers and their families than ever before.
Both my father and my grandfather served in the British Army, my grandfather was a Colonel in the Gurkha’s and was mentioned in dispatches… I know I am lucky that they both came safely home but there are plenty that didn’t, and for those families I feel for their loss. Today in the UK it’s Armistice Day, and I wore my poppy with pride to remember those who didn’t come home.
My grandfather was in WWII . We just sat down as a family and went through the artifacts he left for us and we made a flag box for the flag he was buried with. I have several uncles that served and my other grandfather served in CCC because his brother was already inlisted so he could not go to war too. What a sacrifice these brave men and woman go through. They put their lives at risk so we can be home sleeping In our own beds with our children safe beside us. It really is awesome to think of how brave our soldiers are. God Bless them each and every one.
I really appreciate the military the young Men & Woman who fight for our freedom..I was unable to join the service for being Diabetic.So I thought I would marry a Marine..What a mistake that was..worst time of my Life…But I would never SPIT on any of them (except my X) LOL

I am located in Maritime Canada. Here, today, it is Remembrance Day and is a holiday. I spent part of the morning at a ceremony of Remembrance at our local Cenotaph though the service was moved inside today as it was raininng hard. Remembrance Day has a special meaning for me and in the past few years I have learned a considerable bit about it. I belong to a National Womens’ Organization and am Education Officer for my province. One of my tasks is to prepare a Remembrance Day message that is sent out to many of the Elementary schools. Researching about the poppy and various other aspects connected with this day, and talking to veterans for information for these messages,gives one a lot of respect and admiration for those who fought and died for our freedoms.
my husband is USAF retired, and my sister is a 33 yr USAF reservist. I am thankful to have many members of my family as veterans. I am currently working on a family heritage album and just recently got ahold of photos of my dad’s cousin’s grave in Epinal, France. He was killed during the battle of the Bulge in WW2. Another one of his cousins was severly injured and later died of complications of his injuries sustained at the invasion of Normandy. I am blessed to have found records of my great grandmother’s brother, who served during the civil war. I am very proud of my family’s military service.
Thanks to our troops past and present we have the freedom and priviledge to openly state our gratiude to them without fear of harassment, danger or worse. My husband comes from a long line of military service and is a two purple heart disabled Vietnam vetran himself. We now have two grandsons serving overseas as well. Our freedoms are insured by the continuing battle to protect those rights. So often at a very high price and tremendous sacrifices. Thank you to all who have served to protect Americas safety and freedoms. God Bless America!

My father served in WWII, when he and so many other men from our country endured hardships and harrowing experiences which left them scarred in many diverse ways. Yet, they never complained, and were proud of every man they served with. My son-in-law showed what kind of exceptional man he is through his service with the Marine Corps. I lost many dear friends in Vietnam, and stood up for them when others were making them wonder why they were serving. Thank you to every single veteran, those who gave their lives, those who were left disabled, and those who joined the services knowing they might be asked to give their lives for all of us. I am proud to have served 5 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. However, I am most proud of the 30 years of service my husband, Robert, gave to the nation. Like a lot of other young men in times past, he lied about his age to get in, and found himself far from home for the first time in his life, only 16 years old in 1948. Being a natural born leader, he thrived in the military and was at the top enlisted rank at age 20. He served in the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. He is most proud of two events in his military life. The first one is his participation in the integration of the Army. As a young African-American in 1948, his unit was composed of all black men with white officers. Then one brave white man volunteered to be the first in his unit. Robert’s task was to see that no harm came to the man and to ease his transition into the black unit. He was successful in this endeavor and the two men remained fast friends. Th other event happened at the end of his career. He was asked to serve on a Department of the Army task force on Women in the Army. Along with a large group of people of varying ranks, he travelled all over the world investigating how women were being utilized in the Army and whether the jobs available to them should be expanded. Robert is my hero in so many ways, but his military service tops the list. His only objective in his 30 year career was to serve the country he loves. Many thanks to all who served and are still serving.
My most sincerest gratitude and respect for all our warriors serving in the US military now and who have served in the past. Not only do you protect the freedoms we Americans enjoy, you render aid to those who are in need and suffering worldwide, fighting to keep the world free and safe. I am so thankful for our military. My son , Daniel, served a year in Iraq. I’m thankful to all the men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day. God bless you and your families.
My father, Jim Kelly, was in the army during the Korean War. He was a cook. When he started, the mess halls has long tables with benches for the soldiers to eat at. My dad was the one responsible for getting 4 man tables with chairs to replace the long tables. He has a plaque hanging in his honor at the base. Both of my sons are also veterans. Ken is a US Marine and served 2 tours in Iraq as a fire control specialist. I thank my now daughter-in-law, Ruth, for helping to ease his anxieties after he returned to the States. My son Matt served in the Coast Guard. He helped capture a Columbian drug ship. It took 2 semi trucks to haul the heroin away! I thank God for bring them home to me in one piece. May God watch over and protect all of our military and God bless America!

I am proud to be a great-granddaughter, granddaughter, daughter and a friend of some of those that have served our country and still are. It’s hard to express how grateful and honored I am to know them and have them be a part of my life. I am truly grateful to all of those men and women who serve our country to protect our freedom. So a big shout out too you Veterans!
I am truly blessed to live in a country that has men and women who volunteer to protect this great country of ours. I have 2 sons, one which serves in the Air Force Reserves and another son who is a police officer. The things that they both have experienced makes me wonder why anyone would risk their lives for people they do not know. It is for the love of their country, friends, and family that they serve. I am thankful for special days that are set aside to remember those who serve.
I want to thank and remember my brother who is serving in the Army in Aftganistan now. He has been there for 3 wks and leaves behind 5 children and a wife. This is his 4th tour over there, He will be there for a yr. Praying that he returns safely.

“In 1942, while serving in the U.S. Army on the island of Mindanao, Spain’s husband Paul and fellow soldiers Joe Victoria and Eddie Lindros were ordered to burn the U.S. flag at the Del Monte Airfield to prevent its capture by the approaching Japanese. Before they carried out their orders, however, the three soldiers removed the flag’s 48 stars and hid them in their clothing. Over the next 42 months, the men were transferred to several POW camps and eventually to Japan. All the while, they kept the stars hidden. As the war came to a close, the men began receiving parachute drops with food and aid, which signaled that their liberation was imminent. Spain, Victoria and Lindros wanted to make the U.S. troops feel welcome when they arrived, so they set out to sew the stars back together, using material from the parachutes and other scraps of fabric, an old pedal-driven sewing machine they managed to find, and a rusty nail, which they converted into a sewing needle. When the American troops arrived at the camp on September 7, 1945, their “new” flag was flying proudly over the camp.”
My father served in world war two. I had uncles in the korean war and cousins in vietnam. We should all be thankful for all that the USA service men and women do for us.

Ah!!! I hold a special place in my heart for all veterans. My daddy was a Marine Corps veteran and served in WW II, Korea and Vietnan. He is now with our Lord. When I was a little girl I remember my dad bringing home young Marines who worked for him, who were away from their families on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. They would share dinner with our family and this really left a big impression on me. Semper Fi daddy and fellow veterans. God Bless our Veterans.
I am proud to say that I am married to a disabled American Veteran. He servered his country well when times in America were turbulant in the 60’s when the country didn’t rally around it’s service men and women. It would break my heart when he was in uniform and people would say terrible things to him. All he wanted to do was serve his country.
I am so happy that people have gotten a grip and now understand that these brave men and women are doing what is necessary to keep us in a safe and free in a dangerous world. Freedom comes with a price and thank God that there are men and women out there that would do anything for their country.
I truly love this country and everyday I say thank you to my verteran for the life he has given me, our family and our country.

I want to thank all of the men and women, old and young, who are serving or have served in the U.S. military. Without you and your service, we would not have the the freedoms we enjoy and take for granted in this country. I have a sister who is retired from the Army after serving 20+ years and served in Desert Storm and Somalia, a brother-in-law who is in the Army Reserves and has served in Iraq, a nephew who is a medic in the Army and a niece who just joined the Navy when she graduated from high school this summer. Congratulations! What a tremendous way to celebrate this day. I am a sap for anything patriotic – i cry everytime the star spangled banner is song or played, I don’t know why, but it touches me so deeply.
This is Great way to celebrate the men and women who fight for our freedom.
There are so many veterans in my family, it’s almost impossible for me to talk about just one! Being a veteran myself, I know just a small amount of what these men and women today have to give up to serve and protect our country. I was lucky, I wasn’t in the military during a time of conflict although I signed up and was willing to fight to protect my country. I served for a while in West Germany, there were so many people over there just like me. In a country where a lot of people spoke another language and different traditions from my own. But, in many ways, they were people just like me also. Leaving home was tough, that’s where Mom and Dad were. Where I had lived while growing up and going to school. Where a lot of my favorite meals were prepared all the time. Where I was able to decide what to wear every day of my life.
Once I joined the military, I was told what to wear, when to get up in the morning and go to bed at night. Where to go and where to live. Basic Training was tough, for a while I didn’t know if I was up to everything I was expected to do. All the physical training, running, push ups, and sit ups too. Marching here, marching there with a rucksack on my back most of the time. Learning how to shoot both an M16 and an M60, granades also. After that, there was AIT where I learned how to become a Military Police woman. How to do so much more, arresting people, making sure it was safe for my partner and my self. Always at the back of my mind, missing home. Hoping at every mail call that something was there for me. Looking forward to the time I was allowed to call home to hear a voice I now missed so much!
I could start with my wonderful son who continues our family tradition of serving. He’s now in the Army Reserves. Then, there’s my husband who was in the Navy during Viet Nam. Or my Father and Uncle who were in the Army Air Corps during WWII, my husband’s father was in the Navy during that war too. During WWI, both of my grandfather’s and my husband’s grandfather served, I know his grandfather was the beginning of his family’s Navy tradition. On my mother’s side, there were several men who fought on the Confederate side and on my father’s side, was at least one man who fought on the Federal side of the Civil War. While researching my family tree, we have found several ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. Several of these brave men fought and died in their respective wars while some were able to go home afterwards and fight their own personal war of dealing with the aftermath of loosing friends and relatives to war.
Isn’t it interesting how many wars are called the war to end all war and then, a few years later, another war comes along? If only we could come up with some way to end all war. To keep our loved ones safe who have signed up to protect us and our country?
I have several relatives who have served in the military including a brother, brother-in-law, who served in Viet Nam and more recently, our son, who served in the marines for over 13 years.

I am thankful for all who are serving now and all those who have served and died for our freedom. I have a daughter who is now serving our country in the U.S. Air Force. She is transferring to Turkey to next month, where she will

My Father served in WWII in the Pacific, he has not really opened up much, but the last several years some things have slipped out. He is is 88 and a year and a half ago he was able to go to Washington D.C. for the Honor Flight he states these trip was amazing so I also want to thank everyone in ND and anyone else that donate to this wonderful organization to make this trip possible for him

I grateful for all the servicemen and women that protect our country. My husband got out of the Army about 8 years ago and I’m so thankful for his service.
A real hero doesn’t wear a cape, he/she wears dog tags! Never miss a chance when you see someone in uniform to say “Thank you!” you never know, that could be the last time you will ever see them, they could be laying their life down for you. That goes to police and fire as well. Thank you also to the families of those who serve, they make a huge sacrifice as well. God Bless our uniformed heros! Veterans day should be everyday.
My grandfather served in WWI; my mother, father and 2 uncles served in WWII and my husband served in the Viet Nam war, and the Gulf war. I am very proud of them and am extremely proud of grateful for their service as well as all those who served in past wars and those who serve now; and to those who stayed behind to “mind the home fires.”
I have a 20 year old son who is currently in Afghanastan. He loves being a Marine and serving his country, but it is hard for him to be away from his wife. They had one week together after getting married before he went overseas.
I want to thank ALL veterans, past and present for their service. I have a few favorites: My father, James Ward, a Korean War Vet who served 22 1/2 years in the Army – I love you, Daddy! My husband, Patrick, who served during the Vietnam War. My oldest son, Dustin, who is active duty personnel, 12 years so far in the Air force and 3 tours of Iraq, so far. My middle son, Kyle, who served 3 years in the Air Force but was never deployed, but so wanted to go and be with his brother in Iraq. My oldest nephew, Brandon, Air Force, his brother, Cameron, US Navy; My other nephews (they are brothers as well) Austin (Air Force), Travis (US Marines), and Nicky (US Marines); My Father-in-law, Glenn, 32 years with the Air Force, and a WWII fighter pilot. I come from a strong military family. I was going to go into the Army myself, but was too short and didn’t weigh enough, same thing with my older sister. God bless all the troops…and their families that are often left behind to hold the fort down. Those are strong women, let me tell you! Hoo-ra and GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!
I served active duty Army for 8 and became disabled..I miss the army everyday and found my true love in the army 4 years ago. I am thankful for all the veterans out there serving, have served and continuing to serve! My husband leaves us in two weeks to deploy to Afganistan and I am currently 28 weeks pregnant. I know he has to do this and will come home safe! Until than… I thank all of you veterans out there! Happy veterans day from one vet to another!

I would like to thank all the men and women who work so hard every day to protect the freedoms we enjoy everyday. I am honored to have many members of my family serve in the armed forces and I know what a burden it can be for family members. MY great grand dads fought in the Civil War and my grand dad fought in WW 1. My dad was with the 4th Combat Cargo Group, 14 Combat Cargo Squadron in WW2 and as a pilot he flew over the “Hump” into China hauling aviation fuel in C-46 transports. My brother was Army Corp of Engineers in the mid 70’s, I went to Pennsecola to learn to fly in 74 and now my nephew is on his second tour in Afghanistan (two Purple Hearts). I really appreciate all that he and his buddies are doing. Also my niece’s husband lost a leg in Iraq a few years back. And you know what, none of them ever complained. God Bless the Armed Forces of the United States. May they all return safely.
Megan: Thank you for honoring our Veterans. They are not always remembered. My husband retired a few years ago as a Colonel with 39 years in the service. He started out in the Air Force, got out and went into the Reserves. He will tell you he still misses it.
His father, brothers and my father all served in the military. My father served in WWII and rarely spoke of it. His unit was one of the first to help liberate the prisoners at Dachau. He had a love for this country and told us how proud he was to have served. I am proud of my family and all those who have served this wonderful country we live in to keep us free. What a sacrifice they have made.

A HUGE thanks to all the veterans that have served our country. My grandfather served in the Air Force for 16 years. My husband’s cousin who was a Marine for 8 years & it truely made him a better man and turned his life around and I think that is AMAZING!
I come from a long line of veterans including my Great Grandpa and Grandpa who were both in the Navy in WW11, my brother who was in the Navy as well and served in Kuwait, my husband who served 5 years in the Air Force, my BIL who also served 5 years in the Air Force, and my husbands Grandpa and Uncle who both served in the Air Force as well….. THANK YOU so much to all who have served and all who are serving! We appreciate everything that you have done and all the sacrifices that you have made!
My grandfather was career Army; my dad was Naval Reserve, serving during Korea and my nephew is currently in the Marine Corps, having recently returned from Afghanistan. If it wasn’t for people such as these from families all over the United States, we probably wouldn’t continue to enjoy the freedoms that we have. To all service personnel – past and present – Thank you for your service to our wonderful country.
It would be tough to describe in words the heartfelt thanks and appreciation that I feel for all those service men and women who protected our freedoms…..now and then. This includes my dad, who served in the Air Force in/during/after Vietnam…..I am truly grateful that you do what you do so that I can say, feel and believe what I say, feel and believe….I believe there is a special place in heaven for those who served/serve…..I APPRECIATE AND LOVE YOU.
My dad served in World War II in the Philippines. I was born while he was overseas. He died in 2002, but he remains my hero in my thoughts and prayers, a wonderful man, who was loved by so many!

I come from a long line of military in my family. One of my Uncle was a POW for over 3 years! My fiance is former special forces and my son is currently in the Army. I appreciate each and every person that is in the military. I am a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and have done many missions both for our fallen heroes and for homecomings and also deployments.

I have not been in the military, but my husband Brad served in Vietnam.
Our young go to war so that the rest of us can stay home where it is safe. Enough cannot be said for their sacrifices on our behalf.
If you see a man or woman in uniform, please go up to them, shake there hand and tell them how much you appreciate their sacrifices on our behalf! Hepefully they will all come home soon!

My family and a friend of ours came to the breakfast cafe where I work today and while they were eating took notice of two older veterans at a nearby table, whose check they proceeded to pick up and who they thanked personally for there service. What a great lesson for my kids on the respect and admiration they should show these men and women who have preserved our way of life at such a great cost to themselves. If any of you have the chance today or on any other day, I challenge you to pay it forward to these very special Americans who deserve so much more and ask for so little. God bless!

Thanks to those who serve have served. And thinking of those who family did not get to see there loved ones come home. My dad was in Veitnam before he meet my mom. He has a hard time looking at old photos of his days back then. My brother was in the gulf war and I have so many letters he wrote the day he come home I will never forget. I wrote about it on my blog today. DH grand father was in WWII he passed away just a few years ago. It was neat seeing how Dh would just light up hearing him talk about the misson he had made during his time. He is miseed.

My Grandpa was in the Army during the ’20s, right after WWI, my Dad was in the Korean war in a submarine and my husband was in the Air Force during the Viet Nam war. I am so proud of all of them! It takes a lot of courage to join the military, especially when you’re only 18 years old, as all of them were. I always make it a point to walk up to military men and women to tell them thank you for all they do for this country. They always thank me and look touched that I said something to them. They deserve much, much more!

My husband served in Vietnam, enlisting right out of high school. He broke up with me before leaving so as not to leave me alone should he not return. We still kept in touch and he always said I love you in his letters. We have been married for 40 years and he has suffered cancer due to being subjected to Agent Orange. He is now disabled but he is still and always will be My Hero! I appreciate ALL military for their sacrifices to keep us free. Thanks for the opportunity to say this.
I come from a family of servicemen.. My brother who is 10 months older then my twin sister and myself is still in Afghanistan right now, I have two nephews in the service right now. For their service and my other family members service and each and every other man or woman that has served our country and their families that have made untold sacrifice at home without there loved one THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart..
I come from a very long line of military personnel. Both of my grandfathers served in WWII, my oldest brother was in the Navy, as well as his wife, my brother-in-law was in the Navy, I have a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins that have been in military service to their country. My now deceased father-in-law was in the military. So, I definitely know what it’s like to have family members in the service. I grew up an Air Force “brat” …. from the time I was born until I was 18 years old. The military time holds a special place in my heart because I met some of the most awesome people during those 18 years of traveling — and I am still friends with a lot of them. I spent grades 8 through 12 in England and graduated at Lakenheath American High School ….. a joy and a privilege. I thank each and every one who is serving or ever has served …. and especially to those who lost their lives to keep America free! God Bless Them from the bottom of my heart!
Hi, My Father passed away recently, he was active during the Korean War, he served in the Army. Anyways, My husband (who took the day off of work) and my son and myself, Drove 3 hrs away to Batlle Creek Cemetary(in Mi.) for the Memorial today. Even though I also have an older brother and a brother-in-law there, we have never attended before the memorial. I HIGHLY recommend going!!! It was one of the best 1 1/2 hrs I’ve ever spent. So moving and we are so grateful that we live in this Country!!!!!!! I am going to make a cricut sign for my car window thanking all who serve, served, or died trying to serve out Country. What a huge and terrific sacrifice, I just wanted to let you know. Thanks and Happy Veteran’s Day to all. Amy
My husband served in Vietnam, his father in WW II & now I have several nephews that are serving. Thank you to all for your service. We are free in America because of many people who chose to serve our country.
Today is Remembrance Day here in Australia and this week is more poignant as we as a country have brought home three of our diggers who were killed in Afghanistan when they were ambushed by an Afghani soldier they were helping to train. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Lest we forget and thank you to all who continue to serve our countries and bring freedom and peace to the world.
My Grandfather and 2 of my Great-Uncles all served in the military. I’m so proud of their service to keep our country free with all of the things that we have. I’m thankful that my cousins still serve.
I salute all those that are currently serving or have served in the armed forces, keeping us safe and comfortable at home. My father served in the US Navy as did several of his uncles and my brother-in-law; my uncle served in the US Army, and another brother-in-law in the US Marines. I have great respect for these men for their selfless service.
We are a military family. My husband has served in the USAF for going on 20 years next month. My Dad was in the Army National Guard and one of my brothers, my FIL just retired from the Reserves after 42 years, my uncle was in the Navy, and my Grandfather was a Marine in the Korean War and only found out after his passing that he was a photographer and hiding in the fields when he was barely overlooked by about 100′ ft. He thought his unit left him, but they came back to find him the next day! We are surrounded by friends who are military and when you live so far from family so often, the military becomes your family. It’s a life we chose, and it has made me appreciate so much what our veterans have gone through. I am so thankful for freedoms we have because of all the brave men & women who have gone on before us, for those that have served, and for those still serving. God Bless!
I have relatives throughout my lineage as far back as the Revolutionary War who fought to preserve the freedom and safety we all hold so dear. My husband and I are “children” of the 1960’s, so can remember when our veterans arriving home received less than welcoming return. How sad for all of then, but HOORAY for now when we embrace our all veterans and give them all the honor they deserve. We live in a great country!
We are all so blessed to be protected by the men and women that serve our country. As with many, I have had many family members who have served. Both my father and father-in-law served, as did their fathers. Currently my husband is getting to retire after 30 years in the Air National Gaurd. Hard to believe we’ve been married almost as many years. Now my future son-in-law is currently away at training school. He then will be deploying I believe the first of the year to Guam. I pray each night that our military families are kept safe near and abroad. I can’t thank them enough for their and their famiies commitment. Happy Veteran’s Day. May our service members always be remembered and supported. Thank you Megan for this opportunity to show our support. The crowd at the parade was very minimum and kind of sad.

Please do not include my name in the giveaway. I hope someone w/ a military purpose will be the winner. My dad enlisted in WWII. He didn’t go overseas but I still hear stories of sacrifice and my oldest sister had trouble connecting the picture of her daddy with the man who came home. My mom and aunt worked in factories and shared the care of that sister. My uncle served in both WWI and WWII. His lungs were damaged as a result of mustard gas. I know several people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of serving our country in Vietnam. May each of us stand when the flag is displayed as a way of honoring its meaning and honoring those who have sacrificed, even the ultimate sacrifice, for our freedom. Veterans, your gift to us is priceless!

Your service means a lot to those of us at home who are praying for you and your families while sacrificing your time for us. My daughter’s boyfriend is an Air Force pilot who deploys twice each year for several months. My wish is for you to be safe and well while you are away from those you love.
My father, who recently passed away, served in World War II. We attended a Veterans ceremony today at a Hospice center in our town and it was a very proud moment for me to actually here his name called and recognized for his service for our country.

I am very proud of my husband who has retired from the military after 23 years. He was a contractor in Iraq in support of our troups and he is now working at Fort Leonardwood as a supply tech for Military Police boot camp. Thank you honey for your dedication to our country for over 30 years.
My father was in WWII. He fought durng the whole campaign. He would never talk about the war. He did teach me how to handle a play rifle like they did during parade and inspection (even though I am a girl)
He made six shot glasses out of shell casings on the ship back. He passed in 2005 but I have those glasses (even though we never had them dipped to use) and a lot of great memories.

I retired after 21 years of active duty in the U.S.Navy. I will never forget those I served with and those who served before and after me. I met my husband while he and I were both stationed at the Naval Submarine Base, New London, CT. So I REALLY appreciate that! My Father also served during WWII. There are Veterans every where in your life. Take the time to find out who they are and really THANK THEM for their service.
My dad served in the Army for over 21 years. He served in the Korean War and WWII. He was a paratrooper with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Company out of Ft. Bragg NC. He made 684 jumps. He is now in Heaven with Jesus and I miss him terribly but I appreciate him and all our military for their sacrifice for our freedom.
My daddy, German born, served during WWII on the American side. He spoke very little of his days serving our country and it was not til his passing we learned why. Daddy had a small chest tucked next to his bed that we children were always told to stay out of. Sure, we were curious, but we respected Daddy’s request. After his passing, I was nominated by my big brothers to open his secret chest. Little did we know we would find his pictures from WWII. These pictures told us many stories of who Daddy was, but it also told us what he could not share…Daddy served in the Army division that was first sent in to liberate Dachau, a horrific concentration camp. These pictures and mementos he kept couldn’t be shared verbally by him, but his pictures revealed his broken heart. He lost his dearest friend during this campaign and that was a pain he could not verbalize to his children. I always said that one day I would scrapbook Daddy’s war items, not knowing there are beautiful scrapbooks designed for that purpose. I will certainly be ordering one soon… thank-you!!

I am the daughter of a US Army WWII veteran (France & Belgium), the wife of US AF veteran (military police), the mother of an US Army Veteran (101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and the grandmother of a current US Army soldier who served 2 tours in Iraq, and came home with severe issues for the rest of his life. I am extremely proud of each of these men in my life and what they have given. Freedom is not free. Thank you to all who serve in whatever capacity.

This morning twelve local veterans were invited to the Elementary School that I work at for a special ceremony in their honor (grandpa’s, uncle’s, and father’s of the students). To hear the kids play their recorders while we all sang the Star Spangled Banner with the veterans was a moment I’ll never forget. To see the pride in the veterans faces as they stated their names, the year(s) that they had served and where they had been stationed was quite the moment. Watching the veterans fold the school flag while they told the students what each fold represented was a highlight. It was so special to be in a school with the students and the veterans on this patriotic day. God Bless each and everyone of our service men in women that have served or are currently serving our country today. Thank You from the bottom of our Hearts!

I am retired Navy corpsman who after 20yrs of service is very proud to be an American. Military life has really made a difference in my life and I appreciate the opportunity to serve my country. I am thankful for all the many prayers that were said for the military during my time and I now pray for those who have come after me. I served 3 years in the Navy in the early 70’s in Rhode Island where I met my husband. He was from Colorado and I was from New Jersey. He served 4 years in the Navy ending his tour of duty in Florida. We will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary next Feb. 26th. Go Navy!!
What a wonderful tribute to our military members and veterans. My husband is a disabled vet having served both in the Army and Air Force. His family seems to have had someone in the military from every generation for many years and my family had a few also. To those that have gone before them, those that are still here and those in the future military, many thanks to all of those wonderful souls.

Sean thank you for your service to our country!! You volunteered and gave our country four years of your life to protect our country!! Thank you so much. My son just finished his 4 year contract with the Marine Corps. It was a very tough four years both for him and for our family. Ooh- Rah…He served both in Iraq and Afghanistan and he lost a comrade in Afghanistan in an IED attach….which was very tough on him. We are so proud of him and of the 1/3 Lava Dogs and all of our military men and women who sacrifice and give of their lives daily. Many prayers were said and are said for our military.
I am truly thankful for the sacrifices our armed forces personnel, past and present, do to protect our freedom. I couldn’t imagine making those same sacrifices so I am thankful they do what I cannot. My granfather was a bombardier in WWII and I am honored to say he received the Distinguished Flying Cross award which was rarely given to those who weren’t pilots. He lost his brother in WWII and his brother received the Purple Heart award. My grandfather’s name will forever be inscribed in the Wall of Honor at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in DC and I was blessed to be able to see it and touch it this summer.
My husband just retired after 20 years in the Navy so we are happy to have him home for the first time in a long time on Veterans Day! Thanks to all who served!

What a wonderful outpouring of gratitutude from many generations. My husband volunteered and served near Viet Nam. When he came home from there, he was dis-respected by the anti-war protestors. He was unable to talk about his service because of the disdain and hatred he received. It is such a welcome change that the country has changed and is showing respect to the veterans.
I want to personally thank my grandson who is Navy and has served two at seas in the Middle East. i love him so much and am so very proud of him and his little family. WE were blessed to have his family with us today. It meant so much just to be a part of the day with him. Thank you Johnathan – we love you!! Gram

I am so proud and thanful for our Armed Forces. My husband was a Marine and served in the Korean war. He was just 17 when he was in Korea serving. I am also the proud mom of a daughter who is currently in the Air Force and has made the Military her career. I am 73 year old and I remember growing up how patriotic my parents always were. I had an uncle in World War 2, and I thought he was most heroic and handsome. I remember at one point, being ten years old and riding on the passenger train going to Kansas City which was filled mostly with young men in uniform. One gave his seat to my mother and I sat on the knee of another, as they were packed in.
My husband was, and always will be, a Marine. I’m so tremendously proud of him. I am so thankful for all the dear souls, who paid the ultimate price and those who came home with limbs missing and those who can’t shake the memories of the things they heard and saw.

Thank you for all the women and men that protected us all here on the “homefront”!!! Now and forever more! I was in my mid 30’s when I really started thinking and appreciating our military personnel! Late bloomer I know about it but as they I better late than never. And today I experienced a new thing in my adult life. I went to a Veterans Day Parade (by myself) to meet a Army ROTC instrustor that I have been met on a Crhistian dating service site this past Sat. I knew what he looked like and he didn’t know what I looked like. He was in his union and looked so proud to be a military man. I was proud to see him with the 75 plus cadets they way he was in charge of and how handled everything so professional. I chatted him shortly before the parade and a few words after the parade. He was so professional and texted me later and thanked me going to the parade to see the celebration. My heart swelled with pride of all the cadets I saw, all the miliary personnel that are retired or active military today to be an American! We all are so blessed here at our beloved homefront! God Bless America and especially the miltary personnel Thank Meg for your words too!
First of all I’d like to thank all of our past, present and future service members. But a special thanks goes to my son, Tyson Pence for his 2 tours in Iraq. He was injured and has received a Purple Heart. That was the worst phone call I have ever got and i hope that nobody ever has to go through that! We must never forget we still have people in harms way.
The school, where I teach, has a fabulous tradition of celebrating Veteran’s Day with a major ceremony at the beginning of the school day. We, the entire student body and staff, gather in the front of our campus by the flagpole to honor our veterans. We have MANY activities and traditions at our school, but this is my absolute favorite each year. Many veterans attend this ceremony and are honored. This year both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts presented a wreath to our wonderful Old Glory as it was raised on the flagpole. The mayor, our school board, and our school superintendent are also present each year. Last year the local newspaper FINALLY started coming and wrote an article and put a picture in the paper. The veterans, of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam speak to each of our history classes, sharing their experiences with our young students, giving them some insight of the sacrifices many have given to protect the freedom many of us take for granted. We then honor them further with a luncheon. As I said earlier, this is my very favorite activity of our school year. It is a small way that we honor and show our appreciation to those that have served to keep America what it is. THANK YOU to all that have served. You truly should be honored each and every day, not just one day a year. GOD BLESS each of you.

No matter if you like or dislike the ” state of the union” — these men and women are defending your ” rights and beliefs ” that have been established by our Constitution and Bill of Rights. The military has come to mean a lot in our family! My husband has been serving for 14 yrs, we’ve been married for 12 of those 14. We have four children whom were all born in military hospitals from Maryland to Texas. His father is retired army and his uncle a marine. Military spouses and children serve along side of their service member. It has been a great 12 yrs..but don’t get me wrong, we’ve had our share of issues along the way and we’ve met some of the best friends out there! Thank you to all of those who have served, continue to serve and those who will serve in the future! I am so proud of my airman, I love you!
My husband served in Vietnam. We also have a son who gave his life in Iraq three years ago this September. We are so thankful to all the men and women who serve our country each and everyday. We are so blessed! A big thank you to all who are persevering and continuing to serve! God Bless America!
My Uncle Stuart enlisted after Pearl Harbor with all of his friends. At boot camp, after some sort of testing, my uncle was reassigned to a different outfit and sent to school. He served most of his time in Hawaii and the Phillipines before returning home. His friends didn’t come back so, after living here a year he moved away saying he couldn’t stand to see the faces of the parents of his friends.
Fast forward to 1999. I am cleaning out my mother’s household items after her passing. There, in an old picnic container (you know, the plaid ones iwth the zippers?) were all of Uncle Stuart’s letters to my grandmother. In another container I found all of his letters to my mother, who was a new bride with 12-year-old stepsons. Since then I have found a box with “family photos” written on the outside. Besides the other family treasures were all of the photos Stuart sent home. When I asked his son if he wanted them he said he wasn’t interested. One of the things I am doing is to turn the letters and photos into a scrapbook for his children. Although he never talked about his service to our country (I asked him once, he said it was sealed), it was a pivotal point in his life. Because he wanted to leave home, he moved south where he met his wife and had his children. It’s a life worth acknowledging. I am also doing some sleuthing through military records to see if I can figure out some of the things he worked on to give the book some more perspective. It’s a huge task but I’m a history buff (aren’t we all to a point?) and I look forward to the challenge. The other reason is to honor my mother who loved her younger brother so much. I realized, reading the letters, how much they meant to each other. I called him to tell of my mother’s passing in June 1999 having no idea he would join her in December.
I am very thankful to the veterans who served proudly to keep us safe. I can go about my day to day activities because I am safe and that means life to me. Thank you all again.
Thankful for all those that have served or are serving. My grandfather, who recently passes away, served and he was honored at his funeral and it just reminded me how thankful I am for those who have put their life on the line for our freedom. My husband and I currently have multiple friends who are serving as well.

I was a navigator is the USAF for 20 years. The lifestyle is like no other. My father was also a navigator during WWII and Korea so I am a 2nd generation Navigator. I was ‘fortunate’ to be the first female to fly on the Cobra Ball aircraft when it was stationed in Alaska. My final flight assignment was supporting the dignitaries out of Hickam AFB. The highlight of that assignment was to plan and fly/navigate a mission that literally circled the world.

I am so very thankful for all who serve in our forces. Being a mother of a son who has just returned from Afghanistan and another who is just waiting to enlist into the army I know a little of what they face each and everyday, my heart goes with them and we hang onto every word we receive from them.

A huge thanks to ALL of our Vets! My father was a B-17 pilot in WWII and flew 35 missions over Nazi Germany in late 1944 and early 1945. Thanks Dad!
I would like to thank all our service people and thier familys for all thier sacrifices. My father passed away just 2 months ago and we gave him a miliitary service at the Vetrans Cemetary and he is now buried among other service men and women. He joined the Merchant Marines at the young age of 16 and then later went into the Navy. My husband also served our country in the Air Force. We are so proud of both of them.
Just my thanks to my husband, retired from the Navy(Seabee), and the many other service men and women that we know. They gave so much of themselves to a job that was often difficult, dangerous, dirty and dull. Yet they did what was asked and their families stood by them. Both my father and father-in-law were in the service in WWII, several Uncles, a brother and cousins who served as well. There are many reasons why people enlist, and just as many why they reenlist …. it’s not an easy job for them or their families. Still they do their best and serve with honor and so I want to say thanks to all the others and their families – they have given us all so much. I don’t know how you can return the thanks. Yet the Thanks is there ….. Thank You!
This is so funny you bring this up. My dad is a veteran. He made a career out of the Air Force. We traveled with him everywhere he went. So I grew up in the Air Force and we have been to places like Japan,Germany, and Holland as a family with my father. Yesterday Apple-bees was giving away free meals to veterans. I told my dad I was a veteran because I grew up in the military and went everywhere he went so therefore I should have gotten a free meal too. How funny that is. I thank all the men and women who have served in the military and are still serving for my freedom. I know my freedom is not free because many have died for my freedom. I don’t take it for granite and hope many others feel the same way I do. Happy Veteran’s day to all of you out there. Much love!!!!
I cherish the sacrifices of the service members and their families…and also my family members…my husband retired from the Army, my sister retired from the Air Force, my father served in the Navy and my son is currently serving in the Coast Guard. I would like to add that I did order the Uniform Scrapbooks of America Coast Guard album….awesome!! ( I consider myself crafty and had already asked my son for one of his uniform shirts to duplicate the album. I sure am glad I did not use my time and probably several shirts to try to duplicate this! it is so much better than I could have done!) The album is very high quality and the attention to detail is impeccable! Well worth the price they charge. Way better than I expected! Pictures do not do it enough justice.
Each time I see someone in a Military Uniform I shake their hand and thank them. My dad was one of the origonal Tuskegee Airmen. His name was Captain Robert Glass. It is an honor to be his daughter and it has given me a great appreciation for Military personal and what they give up to secure our freedom.
A special shout out to my dad who passed away in 2008. He lied about his age to enlist on WWII and at 16 was immediately sent to the Pacific. He didn’t talk about the Navy a lot, except for the funny stories of the men taking the pins out of the refrigerator to get snacks…but I do know a kamikaze pilot attacked their ship and they he had a huge scar on his back from an injury during a typhoon. After he passed away, I found some service pictures of the Pacific Islands, local natives, and several of what are presumably Japanese prisoners of war being taken to the ship. Rest in peace, dad, and thank you from all of us.

A very happy belated birthday to all U.S. Marines! Marines hold a special place in my heart, as my dad serverd 27 years in the Corps, and my older brother served 6 yrs as a Marine. I am proud to say I come from a long line of Vets and am proud of them all. I am thankful for the freedom I have from the brave ones that fight for it.
My neighbours 21 year step-son was killed when he was on tour in Iraq 2 years ago. It was a very sad situration, It was a land mine. He had a very honorable military funeral. The military showed a great amount of respect for that young man. He know the chance he was talking but yet he was proud to be fighting for his country. The family mourns his loss every day but show no anger for the service which he was serving. Now that’s patrioism! God bless all troups! The veterans don’t get enough respect in my opinion, so I was very glad to see you doing this “piece”. God bless you Megan!
My husband is a disabled Vietnam Veteran. Even with all the complications from Agent Orange exposure, he is still so proud to have served our country…and I am so proud of him. He talks with fellow vets and school children encouraging them to support our military. I am honored to be his wife. I am honored to live in a country which is kept free by these brave men and women.
Happy Veterans Day! Today my husband & I celebrated our 10th year wedding anniversary; he is a fellow Army veteran. We often talk about his training at Fort Bragg, he speaks of the friendships he developed while serving together during the Gulf War. His dad is a Vietnam vet, my grandfather served in WWII. Yesterday I held my grandfathers Army flag and thought about the sacrifices they each have made as African-Americans serving a country that did not always honor and respect them. I thank them for their service and I thank every veteran for their contribution and sacrifice. Welcome home troops!
My husband served 4 years in the Navy, his father in the Marines, one of his brothers in the Navy and the other in the Airforce, my best friend in the Airforce, and my neices is now serving in the Navy and got back a few months ago from the turmoiled areas. I am proud of each and everyone of them. They are my heroes, along with those serving now. Freedom is because of their dedication to us.
The camo colors are perfect to keep one hidden when one goes into the war front to kill people. No bright colors to give you away. But wouldn’t it be kind of awkward to carry while running away after you blow up the children and teenagers that happen to be walking home or going to get food at the time?
I do agree with Linda Walker above. Freedom costs a lot more than granite.

I am proud to be a Navy wife. My husband is active duty Navy going on his 21st year. He loves his job and is happy to serve so others can be free. The military really is a big family, who jumps in when our ‘real’ families cannot. This time of year makes me proud to be an American. I am soo glad to see that people realize that freedom isn’t free but something we have been given by our men and women in the Armed Forces.
This Veterans Day is especially meaningful to me. My uncles, both WW II vets, have passed away; the last one just this late summer. They were those who fought for this country when this country didn’t fight for them, but it did not dissuade their belief in America. Thanks to them and others like them, I can be the person I am today.
Thank you for this opportunity. My younger brother and sister have both served. My brother was career with10 years in the Marines and another 10 in the Army so he could be a Blackhawk pilot. He retired about 3 years ago. My sister was in the Air Force for 6 years. We buried her yesterday. She and a new boyfriend died at the hands of a jealous ex-boyfriend. She was an avid crafter and very creative. She leaves behind 4 children. 2 girls, 20 & 19. 2 boys, 11 & 5. She was 43. God bless America and all our other veterans. Thank you.
Honor and tradition comes is many different forms for us all. My Father inlisted in the Army at the age of 17. He spent 2 years with the Army before transfering to the Navy. The Navy ws his calling. He was blessed with the gift to become an electrician. This took him all over the world and he was offered a teaching position at age 20. being in a classroom was not his idea of a career. He wanted to see the world and live life to the fullest.He was succesful! He did 5 tours during the Vietnam Conflict and finally retired with full honors in 1975.Dad stayed active with the VFW and the Salvation Army doing many hours of volunteer work.
My older Brothe Lonnie also did an emlistment with the Army right out of high school. Unfortunately he was injured and had to be discharged due to the injuries. My younger brother Brian continued the trandition of serving. He joined the Nave just out of high school. He was active during the first gulf war. He was injured during a mission near the Philapines. He was able to continue his service and retire at 20 years. I know from experience how important or service men and women are to our country. It is not just about warfare. It is about giving to the community through fund raising and toy drives to teaching our young people how to grow up and have respect for other people. Military is about honor and respect for all people, one nation under God.
I would like to raise my paper glass up to every vet and say thank you very much!

I cannot tell you how blessed I have been to have served. I am a retired Chief from the US Navy (22 awesome years). My husband is a retired Chief (21 Years). My father retired after 28 years with the USMC, he was a Master Sergeant. Then, there is my two uncles..both Marines one retired after 30 years as a LTCOL, my other 4 years as a corporal. But, their pictures hung on my Grandmother’s wall and I use to ask her if I joined the Navy would you put my picture up there with them ( was about 8). The Military is near and dear to my family! Now I have a stepson in the National Guard, my oldest son is heading for the Navy next year and my youngest son is in the Civil Air Patrol training to be an officer one day (his dream). People thank us for our service and I thank them for allowing each of us to represent our Country and keep our freedoms. It’s a priviledge and an absolute honor!!! (As you can tell scrapbooking and the military are my passions, kinda started early!)
I am so thankful for all the military serving our country. My father, served during WWII, my father-in-law served in WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War (30 years), my brother served during Vietnam, my hsband served our country for 26 and was in Desert Storm. AND my son-in-law who has served in Afghantistan 9 times and was awared the Distinguished Flying Cross.
I live in the Washington DC area and regularly went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center (now closed) and now the new Naval/Walter Medical Center and there are SOOOOO many young men and women who have been wounded, many with missing limbs.

If it were not for our wonderful guys serving in the military voluntarily, we would not have the freedoms today that we have. Many have given their lives and sacrificed for US. It is sad to see those who do not realize what freedom truly is and experienced the loss of a loved one fighting for that freedom. God has blessed America and we have much more freedom than other countries of this world. War is a reality and men will always fight for what they believe. I am proud to be an American and I love each and everyone of those in the military that fight for MY FREEDOM. I can get up everyday and enjoy life because of what they do for America. I married my dear husband one day and the next day he went into the Air Force. We grew up together (after we were married) as I only knew him 3 weeks before hand. I learned to respect this wonderful COUNTRY of ours, and the men and women who serve so diligently during those years. My hat is off to all of you who give your LIVES and time to protect, respect, and LOVE this country! Our Many THANKS!!!!
My maternal grandfather died in the Second World War serving in the Canadian military. My Mom was not even a teenager. My husband’s family – father and sisters as well as my husband have all served in the American military. I thank all of those who have served in one form or another. We would not be where we are today without people who serve their country.
